Literally translated as 'Rich Coast', Costa Rica lives up to its name by boasting a natural environment that rivals any landscape in any country in splendor. Through rolling hills covered with sugar cane fields, past magnificent volcanoes and along tranquil stretches of rivers and estuaries, we take a few days to travel into the heart of Costa Rica, frequently stopping off in enchanting, fairytale-like surroundings of national parks and reserves for wildlife viewing and nature exploration.
Caribbean beaches, thick, tropical rainforests and geothermal rivers serve as the some of the spectacular backdrops that we encounter along the way and we also have the chance to see a vast array of wildlife, from monkeys and hundreds of species of bird, to butterflies and coati.
Crossing into Honduras, we begin our tour of ancient sites built by one of the most influential and dominant civilizations in the history of the Americas; the Maya. Exploring ruins, sepulchres and hieroglyphic stairways dating from over a millennium ago, our time in Honduras is well spent and it culminates with the opportunity to get close-up to beautiful Mayan temples, which together form a grandiose pyramid.
In Guatemala, we visit colorful local markets and discover a fascinating culture that incorporates Catholic and pagan beliefs as one among those considered the purest descendants of the ancient Maya. This comprehensive 31-day tour that covers five countries is a showcase of the best of the ancient man-made world, as well as of the natural world; volcanic landscapes, lush green jungle, rolling hills and tranquil lakes provide paradisaical surroundings as we make our route through Mexico and Belize, marveling at the grand palaces, remarkable temples and striking pyramids of old.
