You will spend 4 days in Cuzco and near the ruins of Machu Picchu; 2 days in Lima, the capital; 2 days in mysterious Lake Titicaca; 3 days in Ica/Nazca to view the Nazca Lines; and 3 days in Arequipa and the fabulous Colca Canyon.

This trip can be customized to fit your individual travel dates and any specific requests you may have. Your travel consultant will prepare a customized itinerary for you. We offer a choice of 3, 4, 5-star and deluxe hotels. The Deluxe option is with the Orient Express hotels: the Sanctuary Lodge in Machu Picchu, Monasterio in Cuzco and the Park Plaza in Lima. You may also choose to upgrade to the luxury Hiram Bingham train from Cuzco to Machu Picchu, and take the Andean Explorer train from Cuzco to Puno (operates only certain days).

This tour includes international airfare from Miami (US), on non-holiday dates. You do not need to fly via Miami; Kon-Tiki will fly you the most direct way to your city of destination. Depending on your travel dates and proximity of travel, we will quote you the most economical surcharge from your city or country of origin.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Overnight flight to Lima.

Day 2: Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. Afternoon city tour of Lima. Lima has always been one of the most important cities in South America since it's founding in 1535. Journey through the historic center of the city. Admire the beauty of San Martin and Major squares, the Cathedral, the Government Palace and visit San Francisco Convent, religious building from the end of the XVI century and its catacombs. Also drive through the residential districts of San Isidro and Miraflores.

Day 3: Transfer to the airport to take the flight to Arequipa. Arrival and transfer to your hotel. City tour including the Catalina Convent, the Plaza de Armas or Main Square, the Cathedral, the Church of La Compania and the Colonial district of Yanahuara.

Day 4: Arequipa / Chivay. Departure time 08:30 to 09:00. Leave Arequipa by bus crossing the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve, passing by Pampa Caahuas, the Bojedales of Tocra (water filterings) with a stop at Patapampa, special viewpoint of the Andes situated at 4,800 m. Lunch at Chivay. Overnight in Colca.

Day 5: Chivay / Cruz del Condor / Arequipa. Leave the hotel to explore the town of Yanque and visit its church. Continue to Cruz del Condor viewpoint to admire the majestic flight of the Andean condors. Start the return to Arequipa visiting the Andean villages of Yanque, Achoma, Maca and its church, Pinchollo with stops in Antahuilque place known by their mysterious lagoons, from this place can be observed the andenes or cultivation terraces, continue to Choquetico to admire the high burials and rock maquettes. Lunch on the way. Continue to Arequipa ending at your hotel.

Day 6: Morning transfer to the airport, to take the flight to Cuzco. Upon arrival in Cuzco, transfer to your hotel. Morning transfer to the airport to take the flight to Cuzco. Afternoon city tour of Cuzco, visiting the Korikancha Temple or Temple of the Sun, the Cathedral and its Art Museum and the artisans quarter of San Blas and San Blas church. Continuing to the nearby water shrine of Tambomachay (the Inca Fountains), Puca Pucara (the Red Fortress), amphitheater of Kenko and finally the Sacsahuaman Fortress. Return to your hotel.

Day 7: Morning transfer to the train station. Train takes us through the Sacred Valley of the Incas up to the town of Aguas Calientes. From here, we will board a bus to the Lost Citadel of Machu Picchu. We will then have a guided tour of the ruins. Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas, was a flourishing ceremonial and agricultural site, probably the gateway to the jungle marches of the Inca Empire. The central buildings were erected with the polished stone works of the Cusco Imperial style, though the site was probably occupied well before the Incas started their expansion. It was associated with the earth cult revolving around the Coca leaf, which was a privilege of the Inca Royal family and priests.

You will have time to enjoy a light lunch or snack, and return to your hotel at your leisure. In the evening we will enjoy a wonderful dinner at the hotel or in the village of Aguas Calientes.

Day 8: Day at leisure. You may choose to return to Machu Picchu, hike Huayna Picchu, or relax in the village of Aguas Calientes and its hot springs. In the afternoon, we will board the train to return to Cuzco. Upon arrival transfer to your hotel.

Day 9: Morning at leisure in Cuzco. Afternoon transfer to the airport to take the flight to Lake Titicaca. Upon arrival transfer to your hotel.

Note: You may also take the Andean Explorer train from Cuzco to Puno, operates only Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

Day 10: Transfer to the port to take a boat ride over Lake Titicaca, to visit the floating islands of Uros. Afternoon visit the isle of Taquile, known for its pre-Inca and Inca ruins and Inca terraces. Afternoon return to Puno and overnight in Puno. Lunch included.

Day 11: Morning visit the necropolis of Sillustani, at 12000 feet above sea level, the lagoon of Umayo and the fabulous "chullpas" or tombs in the shape of cylinders. Transfer to the airport to take the flight to Lima. Upon arrival in Lima, transfer to your hotel.

Day 12: Early morning transfer to the bus station, where you will take the bus to Ica. Upon arrival, tour of Ica, the old and the new districts, visiting the Sanctuary of Luren, the Regional Museum of Ica, the Lagoon of Huacachina and a winery where we will be able to observe the process of Pisco-making, the typical Peruvian drink and ingredient of the famous Pisco Sour. Afternoon transfer to your hotel in Nazca.

Day 13: Morning flight over the Nazca Lines, followed by a visit to the Cemetery Inca of Chauchilla, in the valley of the Trancas, with subterranean tombs containing mummies in a fetal position facing east. Afternoon, transfer to your hotel in the Bay of Paracas by the Ballesta Isles.

Day 14: Morning cruise to the Ballesta isles, where you will see sea lions, penguins, and more than 60 species of sea birds. You will also see the "Candelabra", another ancient sand design. After lunch, return to Lima.

Day 15: Transfer to the airport to take the flight back home, or overlap with the add-on of your choice.

Hiram Bingham includes brunch on board, afternoon tea in the Sanctuary Lodge, pre-dinner cocktails and a 4 course-meal, a la carte dinner. Does not operate on Sundays.
