The beauty of the "Kungei-Alatay" ridge the chain of "Kolsai" mountain lakes, situated at the height of 2000-2700 m above sea level. The emerald mirror-like surface of the lakes, fringed with coniferous woods, mountain rivers with clear water, flower carpets of alpine meadows will carry you into the fairy-land of wild nature. From the easily reached "Kurmenty" Pass, 3516 m, you see down to the large "Issyk-Kul" lake.
You will carry a rucksack with your personal belongings and a sleeping bag en route. Its weight will not exceed 8-10 kilo. Shoes should be comfortable and durable, with grooved soles. Keep in mind that at night and in a thunderstorm the temperature may fall down below 0° centigrade.
Your Itinerary
Day 1: Drive to lake "Kolsai-1", 320 km in 6 hours.
Day 2: Hike from lake "Kolsai-1" to lake "Kolsai-2", backpacking, 12 km in 8 hours.
Day 3: Hike over “Jahntai” pass (3270 m), mountain lake 3270 m, trekking 12 km in 7 hours.
Day 4: Cross the “Kurmenty” pass (3516 m), down to “Kurmenty” village (Kyrgyzstan), trekking 17 km in 6 hours.
Day 5: Drive to Almaty, 480 km in 8 hours.
