Tour Itinerary: Textile expert Cynthia Le Count Samake and Peruvian photographer Veronica Samanez will accompany a small group of knitting, weaving and archeology fanatics and friends on this popular adventure. Then Nilda Callañaupa, Andean weaving/knitting expert and Director of the Center for Traditional Textiles of Cuzco will lead the highland village visits. We land in Lima, visit great textile/ceramic museums, then fly north to Trujillo to meet a Peruvian archeological textile specialist, and visit several fascinating sites - the famous pyramids of the Lord of Sipan, Huacas del Sol and Luna, and the brand-new Museo de Cao, of the tattooed female warrior mummy. A renowned woodblock artist will welcome us into his studio and show us his techniques and his detailed prints of ancient motifs. In this area, we stay near the beach at Huanchaco. Then we fly over the Andes to Cuzco where we visit highland textile villages to meet the knitters and the weavers and learn to dye alpaca yarns with natural dyes. There we stay in an 18th c. historical hotel with beautiful courtyard. We spend two days seeing mystical Machu Picchu, with the rush of the Urubamba River lulling us to sleep at night. After a free day or two in Cuzco, we fly back to Lima where we sample the local haute cuisine. Next day, we fly home. We travel by commercial jet and private van. All of our hotels are safe and charming and the food is delicious. Notes: Prices:
