Tour Itinerary
Day 1 - Houeyxay- Xieng Kok
Cross the thai-Lao border early morning (08h00) to reach the city of Houeyxay. From here we depart on a private local slow boat up the Mekong towards Xieng Kok. We’ll have packed lunch on the way. On arrival in Xieng Kok, explore the small village and its surroundings looking into Myanmar (Burma).Overnight in local guesthouse, which is very basic in Xieng Kok. (Lunch)
Day 2 - Xieng Kok-Muang Sing
After breakfast we depart towards the city of Muang Sing 70km away with a stop at Muang Long on the way. Muang Sing was a former French army post and once a main opium-trading center. In the afternoon visit the Muang Sing Exhibition and try a lao herbal sauna. Overnight in Muang Sing. (Breakfast, Lunch)
Day 3 - Muang Sing trek
After a morning visit to the market, day trek to visit a minority village in the surroundings of Muang Sing.
NOTE: day trek will be private for group of 3 pax up. For 2 pax the trip will be on join-in basis. Overnight in Muang Sing. (Breakfast, Lunch)
Day 4 - Muang Sing- Luang Namtha
Drive to Luang Namtha, which is a small village and is nestled in a fertile valley 58km away. In the afternoon explore town and surroundings on your own by bicycle (bike and map provided). Overnight in Luang Namtha. (Breakfast, Lunch)DAY 5 - Luang Namtha excursion Choice of a full-day trek to a minority village or a boat trip on the Namtha river.
NOTE: day trek will be private for group of 3 pax up. For 2 pax the trip will be on join-in basis. Overnight in Muang Sing. Overnight in Luang Namtha. (Breakfast, Lunch)
Day 6 - Luang Namtha- Nong Khiaw
Drive to Nong Khiaw with a lunch stop in Udomxay. Fantastic scenery on this curvy and hilly stretch. Stops at villages on the way especially Song Cha, a Hmong village perched high up on a mountain crest. Overnight in Nong Khiaw, whose accommodation is very basic. (Breakfast, Lunch)
Day 7 - Nong Khiaw- Luang Prabang
After breakfast embark on local long boat for a journey down the Nam Ou river towards Luang Prabang. Lunch along the way after a visit to the sacred Pak Ou Caves. Arrive in Luang Prabang in the afternoon. Check into hotel. Overnight in Luang Prabang. (Breakfast, Lunch)
Day 8 - Luang Prabang city tour
Breakfast is in hotel. Today’s main attractions: visit beautiful Wat Xieng Thong showing its best face in the morning sun, the former Royal Palace, now the National Museum and Wat Mai, a temple renowned for its golden bas-reliefs, the exploration of town with stops at Wat That, Wat Visun and Wat Aham. Cross the Mekong for a walk on the opposite riverside and a climb to Wat Chompet for a different view of the city for sunset. Overnight in Luang Prabang. (Breakfast)
Day 9 – Excursion to Kuang Si Waterfalls
After breakfast, depart for a visit to Kuang Si Waterfall, south west of Luang Prabang with stops en-route to visit some ethnic minority villages. It is possible to walk to the top of the falls via a steep track and if the weather is good swim in the clear water at the foot of the falls. Return to Luang Prabang. Rest of the afternoon free at leisure. Overnight in Luang Prabang. (Breakfast)
Day 10 - Depart Luang Prabang
Depends on your flight schedule, we may visit a weaving village where traditional Lao textiles are woven and where Sa paper is made and make a stop at Wat Pa Phon Pao, a forest retreat before transferring to the airport for your flight out. (Breakfast)
IMPORTANT NOTE: Rates for this tour are based on a minimum of 2 pax and the tour is limited to 8 participants.Due to the remoteness of the region, this tour includes some elder vehicles, basic accommodation and bad roads. Plans, schedules and itineraries might have to be amended at the last minute to adapt to some changing circumstances. Therefore flexibility, an open mind and a genuine interest for off the beaten track visits are required.
