Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival at Maiquetia Airport, Caracas; flight to Mérida City.
Overnight at Posada Sol.
Day 2: Merida – Trekking in the Andes
Start exploring the Andean region on foot and on horseback, entering sites that were sacred in pre-Hispanic times, and discovering the rich agricultural and cattle-raising lands that extend to the very summits of the páramo (4,440 meters). We will visit the Mititibó community at 3,400 meters with its wheat fields, stone walls, and adobe houses. Optional tour of the observatory. Overnight at Mucuposada El Trigal. Includes: (L), (D).
Day 3: Trekking in the Andes
Cross from the Mitibo to the El Banco valleys, walking around potato fields and into the páramo. Overnight at Mucuposada Aguita Azul. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 4: Trekking in the Andes
Walk through two cattle ranches and across the Andean lands near Muruzoque to a glacial landscape covered with lagoons and giant frailejones (paramo flowers). Tread the old Camino Real, a trade route used in colonial times and rich with history. Overnight in Misintá at the mucuposada. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 5: Andes – rafting in Los Llanos
Leave the posada early in the morning for Barinas, driving the Trasandina route to the Acequias camp, then go rafting for 2 hours. Overnight in beds at the Acequias camp. Includes: (B), (D).
Day 6: Biking in Catalina
Go to the Catalina area for 3 hours of mountain biking, then go rafting in the Sinigüi River by 4 hours. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 7: Canyoning in Altamira de Caceres – Barinas – Caracas
Canyon down waterfalls at Altamira de Caceres, then after lunch return to Barinas for the flight back to Caracas. Includes: (B), (L).
