We design this trip to allow you a unique opportunity to experience rich and varied ethic and cultural diversity of China's two beautiful regions, Yunnan Province and Central Tibet. Starting in the provincial capital of Kunming, known as the "city of eternal spring" for its invigorating climate, our route leads us through the old Bai town of Dali, to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Naxi town Lijiang, and then to the Tibetan area of Zhongdian.
Along the way, we cross the route of the old Southern Silk Road, and visit the Shaxi Market, a thriving rural market located in a traditional Bai village. Enter the Tibetan cultural area of Zhongdian, called the "Shangri-La" of China after the legendary land described by British writer James Hilton in his 1939 novel Lost Horizon. There we will experience the culture and way of life of the Tibetan people. Continue our journey with a flight to Lhasa and visit central Tibet, a heartland of rich culture that continues to fascinate the world.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive in Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province. Visit Stone Forest.
Day 2: Fly to Dali. Experience Erhai Lake by boat. Hike up to summit of Mt. Cangshan
Day 3: Drive from Dali to Lijiang via Shaxi
Day 4: Explore Lijiang Old Town, Black Dragon Poll Park and visit authentic Naxi villages including Baisha village for its fascinating murals. Diner will be arranged in a Naxi family for their family cook.
Day 5: Lijiang to Zhongdian via Tiger Leaping Gorge
Day 6: Visit Songzanlin Monastery and tranquil Shudu Lake.
Day 7: Fly to Lhasa and transfer to Tsedang.
Day 8: Visit Samye and travel to Gyantse via Yam drok Tso Lake.
Day 9: Explore Kumbum Monastery and drive to Shigatse.
Day 10: Visit Tashilunpo Monastery and drive to Lhasa.
Day 11: Potala Palace, Johkang temple and the bustling Barkhor Street.
Day 12: Day hike outside Lhasa from Pabonka Monastery to Dodu valley and visit Chupsang Nunnery on the way.
Day 13: Visit Sera Monastery, Drepung Monastery, Tibetan family visit and Tibet carpet factory.
Day 14: Fly to Chengdu. Enjoy a tea break in the afternoon before a dinner feature Sichuanese cuisine. A face-changing show ends today's program
Day 15: Transfer to the airport for departure.
