A privately run retreat center near Granada in the province of Andalusia. This is an all-season retreat with home comforts. The restored farmhouse stands on a hill surrounded by mountains and groves of olive, orange, almond and lemon trees. Its charm is that it feels like a family home as well as a retreat that is designed for people who love beauty, yoga, delicious food and, above all, peace. The grounds include a shaded outdoor yoga platform, swimming pool and hydro-massage hot tub. In the afternoons you can choose from a range of holistic therapies. A massage treatment is included in the cost of your stay.

The Yoga. Jonji & Rosie's teaching is founded on the Dynamic Yoga method and set within the context of Patanjali's 8 limbs of yoga. Our aim is to guide you towards developing a self-directed practice, the traditional way of practicing Yoga. The morning practice is based on vinyasa, or "moving on the thread of the breath". By focusing awareness on the breath during practice, we feel strength, grace and clarity of mind.

The morning yoga classes are based on flowing vinyasa krama with integrated pranayama (ujjayi breath). We start with a few minutes of relaxation and a reminder of the essential qualities for yoga practice (yama niyama). We follow this with suryanamaskara (sun salutes) and a sequence of standing postures based on the primary series of astanga vinyasa yoga. If you are a beginner, or just plain stiff, don't worry - easier variations of the postures will be given to encourage your body to open without losing mental focus. Each class ends with a cooling sequence of inversions, followed by a rest (savasana) and a few minutes of sitting meditation.

The afternoon yoga sessions are restorative, using postures that gently open the major joints of the body. Guidance in pranayama and sitting meditation is also given. Please note: You will be practicing for between 3 to 4 hours each day. This can be quite challenging, so a reasonable level of fitness and enthusiasm is recommended. Yoga classes are suitable for keen beginners as well as experienced students.

By the end of the first week many guests say they are just beginning to feel truly alive again and they wished that they had come for 2 weeks. A longer stay will deepen your yoga practice, increase your flexibility, reduce mental stress and bring insightful awareness to what is really important in your life, enabling you to honor your life as it is. Are you pregnant? Do you have an injury, or disability? Please tell us so that we can discuss this with you. What to wear for yoga: cotton t-shirt & shorts, or loose fitting cotton track pants. Avoid synthetic fabrics.

What else to bring: flip-flops, sandals and trainers are good for most occasions. If you want to go horse riding, bring jeans and boots. A pocket-size torch is handy at night. Please bring your own towels. We provide: bed linen, yoga mats & props.

Other Info: Vegetarian Cuisine - Based on Mediterranean flavors, Kaliyoga's vegetarian cuisine is imaginative and well balanced - no worthy millet or boring nut loaf! Holistic Therapies: A full body massage is included in the price of the retreat. In the afternoons you can choose from a choice of therapies: Chinese Acupuncture, Kinesiology, Indian head massage, Thai yoga massage, Pedicure, Aromatherapy massage, Bowen technique.

Accommodation. Kaliyoga can sleep 14 people - the main farmhouse sleeps eight and the other rooms are in the second farmhouse and also in four luxurious tee pees in the olive grove. Each guest room is decorated by Rosie whose attention to detail and personal touches include home made soaps, books, a writing pad, aromatic oil burner. and colorful rugs on the tiled floors.

For those with a free spirit there are four large north American tee pees. Each tee pee is furnished with a single bed, floor rugs, oil lamps, bedside table and a pine wood clothes trunk. Our guests tell us that the relaxed vibe and effortless quality of personal care from our staff makes everyone feel part of the family. If you need to stay in touch with the outside world you can connect your PC into Kaliyoga's wireless internet network.

A note about sharing rooms. It is the practice in yoga retreats for single guests to share a room with another person. If you would like to share a room we will do our best to arrange this for you. However, if it turns out that a sharer can not be found for you, then the room will be priced as a single.

If you want to spend a night in Granada, our friend Michael Rainey has rooms in his beautifully restored Moorish merchant's house in the oldest part of central Granada. Casa del Aljibe has wonderful views of the Alhambra Palace and is within walking distance of bars, restaurants and shops. You are ideally placed to absorb the romantic atmosphere of the narrow, winding, cobbled streets of the old Arab quarter.

Getting There. Airport transfers are operated by private drivers at fixed rates (cheaper than airport taxis - see below). Your transfer needs must be pre-booked directly by you. You can contact other guests to share costs with you by placing a message on the Guest Message Board (to avoid spam there is a password. Once you have booked this will be given on request). It is your responsibility to keep Sue informed of any changes and you must tell her if there are any additional passengers. Costs are payable directly to the driver in euro.
