The school owns 2 buildings near each other, only a few meters from the beach of Las Palmas (Canteras Beach). In one of the buildings the school and cafeteria are located, the other building is the residence. The beach of Las Palmas is one of the most beautiful in Spain with 3 kms. of fine white sand and an elegant promenade full of terrace bars and restaurants. The residence has capacity for 22 lodgers in single and double rooms with full private bathroom. It is a 10 minutes’ walk from the school along the beach promenade. It is a 6-storey building with lift and big, sound-proof windows.
Our teachers are university graduates in Spanish philology or linguistics and they have long experience in teaching Spanish as a foreign language. They participate periodically in retraining courses in order to always be up to date in the new teaching methods and systems. These methods teach the factors that linguistic progress depends on and how to overcome the barriers that people of different origins and languages face when studying a language. All this so that their progress will be quicker and more effective. Our teachers are examiners for the DIE (International Diploma of Spanish) with authorization from the Foundation for the Research and Development of the Spanish Culture (FIDESCU).
Faculty Information:
The school offers General Spanish Courses in 6 levels and 11 courses in Spanish for specific purposes all year round. Each level from A1 to B2 lasts 4 to 5 weeks (see calendar). The C1 and C2 levels are given only as private or semiprivate tuition and are ideal for the preparation of the DELE examinations.
For students of the Standard Course A needing special help or for those requesting a DELE or DIE examination preparation or specific courses (History, Literature, Art, specific vocabulary) the school offers 10 extra lessons at a special price (1 to 5 participants). Students of the Standard Course 2W (it lasts only two weeks for Beginners A1) may only book these courses in private or semiprivate lessons. Besides the courses in General Spanish and the DELE preparation courses, the Gran Canaria SOL also offers 11 courses in Spanish for specific purposes. Each of these courses requires a minimum level of pre-knowledge of Spanish.
Other Activities:
The school organises optional extra-academic and leisure activities such as a weekly excursion, visit to the theatre, art galleries or museums, restaurants or folk dances, films... etc. A minimum number of participants is required for every activity. These activities will have an extra cost. The school can also organize sport, dance or other activities on demand.
Facility Information:
Each room has wireless internet access, a safety deposit box and a TV set with several channels in Spanish and other languages (satellite connexion). The residence is specially prepared for handicapped persons in wheelchairs so they can go from the residence to the beach and school without any impediments. The residence also offers common premises and services such as a kitchen for small meals, an ironing room and a reading room.
