WThe Isle of Skye, which lies off the west coast of Scotland, is a magnificent location for photography with a wonderful variety of landscapes awaiting the visitor.
We encourage a relaxed and friendly atmosphere among our guests, many of whom are now old friends. If you have any problems, help is always available.
Whatever your level of accomplishment in photography, a Skye in Focus holiday will enable you to experience the unique atmosphere of the Isle of Skye and to capture something of its beauty in the images that you create.
Faculty Information:
Steve Terry has over twenty years' experience as a keen amateur photographer and lecturer in adult education photography classes. His main photographic interests are landscape and macro, and he works in both 35mm and medium format. He is still a committed film user and enjoys both monochrome and colour. He is an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society and a past member of Wantage Camera Club and Grange Photographic Society. As well as running Skye in Focus, Steve also supplies images to a picture library and produces prints for sale, both at the Skye Picture House and also in other outlets on the Isle of Skye.

Other Activities:
Rising straight out of the sea to a height of over three thousand feet, and often shrouded in mist which adds to their mystique, the Cuillin mountains are regarded by many as the finest in Britain. The fantastic pinnacles of the Storr and the Quiraing are one of the natural wonders of Scotland. In addition to the natural landscape, Skye has many man-made features that are worthy of interest. These include standing stones, brochs and many ruined buildings and deserted settlements - relics of the 19th century Clearances.
Skye also offers great opportunities for the wildlife enthusiast. Otters can often be observed from our house and grounds, together with many species of sea birds. The Island flora is extremely diverse and includes ancient oak, ash and birch woodland.
Freshwater lochans, coastal rock-pools, rugged cliffs and sandy beaches are all found on the Island, and offer almost limitless possibilities for exploration with the camera.
But above all it is the magical light, created by the ever-changing weather, that makes Skye such a rewarding experience for landscape photographers.
