Founded in 1986, Institute of English has built up a reputation for professionalism and academic excellence. We have a staff of highly-qualified and experienced teachers, and General and Professional English courses are held year-round at our headquarters in Palmerston Park. We also run Summer Courses from June to September. Students from all over the world have come to learn English at Institute of English and our different centres allow us to provide the highest-quality service to all and to ensure the best learning environment for all students, whatever their age, culture or academic background.
The school environment is a friendly and personal one, where a sincere concern is shown for the well-being, comfort and academic success of every student. Institute of English puts the emphasis on quality and makes the learning experience a cultural one. We have had particular success in designing programmes for groups or individuals with specific interests. These are specially-designed holiday, study or training-related programmes. Over the years we have established relationships with universities, companies and institutions in many parts of the world.
Faculty Information:
Quality is our primary objective and we have always been committed to on-going re-evaluation of our programmes. We welcome client feedback to help us with this and although teaching is our core business we believe that in order to provide a quality language programmes we also need to provide quality auxiliary services and this is what we do.
All teachers at the Institute of English have university degrees and are trained to teach English as a Foreign Language. Many have additional qualifications in specialist subject areas. Our teachers take a keen interest in students' progress which is also regularly monitored by the Director of Studies. Teachers also participate in training seminars and attend regular meetings to discuss course content. Most of our teachers have lived and worked as teachers abroad and have first-hand knowledge of other cultures, customs and traditions.
Students at the Institute of English are assured of personal attention at all times. In addition to the academic and administrative staff, we have a full-time Accommodation Officer. She and her team are always on hand to answer any questions students might have regarding any aspect of their accommodation.
We have a permanent Student Welfare Officer at the institute who operates the institute's ongoing social & cultural programme and who is always on hand to answer student's questions. These can range from help with renewing a visa application, to providing information on places to go in Ireland, to explaining particular Irish customs and habits, to simply sharing some time talking.
Other Activities:
- Students attending a General Course at Palmerston Park have access in the afternoons to one of our two language laboratories which are equipped with state-of-the-art multimedia facilities (including free e-mail and internet access).
- Weekend excursions are optional and are not included in the course fee. They cost approximately €36 per one-day trip and €115-€130 for two-day trips.
- Students also have the option to stay in the school any afternoon to watch an English language film or play sports.
- Sports include tennis, badminton, football, table tennis, etc.
Facility Information:
We have a large host database of host families to choose from, the majority of which have been with us at least 8 years. Staying in an Irish family is the ideal way to practise your English and to experience daily life and culture in Ireland. We carefully grade and select each of our host families by visiting the home and interviewing the family in person.
Residential accommodation is available in the College, and each student has his or her own study-bedroom. The residential block contains a number of television lounges as well as the Student Common Room. Meals are available to all students and, in addition, facilities are provided whereby snacks may be prepared. Sports facilities provided on the campus include tennis, table tennis, snooker and badminton.
Dublin has a full range of hotel and guesthouse accommodation from simple bed & breakfast to 5-star international hotels. We have a full list of hotels and guest houses which are situated close to the school for those students who would prefer this type of accommodation.
We work with a number of agencies who offer a wide range of self-catering accommodation for rent in the south Dublin area. Prices range from €500 per week to €1000 per week depending on the type of apartment required and the time of year.
There are several of budget accommodation centres in and around Dublin's city centre. These are generally targeted at the high-school and university student age group. They provide various hostel–type accommodation for student groups and individuals from around €30 per person per night. Accommodation is generally dormitory style with room sizes ranging from 2–8 beds per room. Other facilities (bathrooms, showers, kitchens, restaurants) are also provided on a shared basis.
