Language Institute is one of Canada's premier educational institutions. The philosophy and mission of LI were developed and based upon many years of experience in an International ESL market. LI prides itself on delivering top quality programming to students from all over the world. Our "hands on" approach dealing with clients on an individual basis ensures that all issues are addressed while studying at LI.
Modern learning techniques are utilized to ensure students learn in the most effective and interesting atmosphere. The Full-Time ESL Program at LI is based on a minimum of 23 hours of study per week. After an assessment test is completed, students are placed in various levels corresponding with their abilities in Speaking, Listening, Reading, Grammar and Writing. LI recognizes that students from different cultures that come to Canada to study ESL will have varying strengths and weaknesses in the different components of the English language. Our curriculum can cater to these differences by allowing students to study at a corresponding level for each of the components (Speaking, Listening, Reading, Grammar and Writing) rather than a uniform level. This possibility of differential levels allows a student to maximize their learning potential.
The TESOL Certificate Program offered at Language Institute is an ESL teacher training course with 100 hours of classroom instruction and a 20-hour supervised practicum. The course is offered in an intensive 4-week format or a 10-week part-time format. Full-time programs run Monday to Friday from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. for four weeks. Part-time programs are offered Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 9:15 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Using the ACE Method, trainees explore teaching, learning and language through task-based, participatory and interactive experiences. The content is based upon the most recent research in language acquisition and language education. The following topics are covered in the course:
- Teaching and learning theory
- Current methodology
- Lesson and Unit Planning
- Teaching Language Systems (grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, functions)
- Language Skills (speaking, listening, writing, reading)
- Testing and Evaluation
- Preparing Students for Standardized Tests (TOEFL, TOEIC)
Candidates are assessed on the following: an observation report, grammar knowledge and usage, a unit plan, a lesson plan, and individual teaching. Certification is achieved at a pass, high pass or distinction level.
The ACE TESOL Certificate offered at Language Institute meets the guidelines of TESL Canada. Applicants must have a University degree and a demonstrated proficiency in English. Non-native speakers may be requested to provide proof of English proficiency by means of TOEFL or TOEIC, or a comparable standardized test.

Language Institute recognizes that a big part of a student's study in Canada focuses around living concerns. LI screens potential homestay families continuously; ensuring that students can request a particular type of Canadian family that they will be comfortable with. Students can choose from a young family, elderly family, with or without children or pets. Students may live on their own, or with another student. Privacy is assured for all students. LI selects families that are interested in sharing experiences with the students. This provides an atmosphere where students are able to feel "at home". Students are able to choose from a full-meal program, or an option that allows students to prepare their own meals.
LI will arrange all of your living arrangements prior to your arrival in Canada. We can forward information on your homestay family once you have indicated your living preferences. If a student decides during the course of their study, that they would like to change their living arrangements, LI will assist to ensure that the student is comfortable and satisfied.
LI has an outstanding residence that can accomodate over 250 students. Located in the heart of downtown London, this residence is a beautiful, recently renovated 4-star hotel. It features individually climate-controlled rooms, private bathrooms, and a spacious living area. Each floor has a kitchen area where students can prepare their meals. All rooms have a bed, drawers, and a desk. Students have access to a multitude of restaurants, a cafeteria, a hair salon, a variety store, a games room, a laundry facility, and much more. The residence is security controlled to ensure the safety of younger students who may require 24-monitoring. Students have the option of having their own room, or sharing a room with another student.
- Applicants without a University degree may be accepted, however will not qualify for TESL Canada certification
- Homestay accommodation is available during the course of study at a rate of $600 per month. Accommodation includes room and board with a Canadian homestay.
