IDIOMA - Escola de Português is a Portuguese language school for Brazilians and foreigners which was created in May 2002, by two ambitious teachers with over ten years of experience teaching at University and language schools. It is located in Salvador, Bahia, which is considered a city rich in history and tradition. Its port has always played a key role in the local and regional economy. Salvador is famous for its African heritage in music, dance, folk customs, religion and cuisine.
Our students will find out about this while learning the Portuguese language. Because first we love to welcome students from all over the world to help them out and show them around also after school and second because at IDIOMA the student finds a great variety of courses and activities to choose from.
Faculty Information:
All teachers at Escola de Português are native speakers with university education. They have been trained to teach Portuguese as a foreign language and are constantly coached by weekly teacher meetings. We offer a great variety of courses, such as individual classes, group lessons of either 4 or 6 hours a day, intensive grammar classes, a special pronunciation course, German "Bildungsurlaub" and preparation classes for the CELPE-bras examination.
As our classes have a soci-cultural thematic approach, we offer our students several learning activities that take place outside of the classroom. Students may also combine Portuguese classes in the morning with diving, cooking or afro-Brazilian dancing classes in the afternoon. If you want to use your obtained language knowledge in practice, you can as well join our volunteer program helping to teach in a Brazilian kindergarten, called "creche", for underprivileged children.
Other Activities:
At least once a week we invite our students to a cultural event or activity at non-touristic places to let them experience the Brazilian lifestyle and to show them around Salvador. We organize trips such as the following: visits to churches and museums; participation as a guest in a candomblé ceremony; bicycle rides through the park Pituaçu followed by a swim in the local beaches; watching shows, concerts and theater plays; trips to typical folk shows; evening workshops, i.e. pronunciation training, Brazilian literature, politics and economics, Capoeira music and its instruments.
Facility Information:
IDIOMA is located along the marvelous coast side of Salvador in a district called Barra. It is very close to many tourist attractions such as the historic town center, Pelourinho, and the famous island Itaparica. Our dedicated staff creates a familiar atmosphere. There will always be someone around to help you out with any questions and needs and to keep you informed about cultural events and entertainment. We want you to feel right at home! Therefore, we offer an airport pickup and we arrange you a well-chosen accommodation, if you wish. You may choose between staying in a local host family, sharing the apartment with Brazilians, a pousada (pension), a hotel or an apartment.
Notes:
Prices refer to a course of one week with 20 lessons of 50 min. For any further information about our programs and prices, please send us an email and we will be happy to assist you.
