The Teachers - We have a highly qualified and experienced team of full-time permanent teachers (all have postgraduate qualifications in teaching English). They will make sure that your lessons are relevant and interesting, and that you make good progress.
Accommodation: Our host family accommodation is excellent and we monitor it closely to ensure our high standards are met. All families are within walking distance of the College and will offer you your own room, all meals at weekends and half-board on weekdays. The family will be pleased to help you practise your English. We also encourage you to use English by not placing you with any other student who speaks your language. Alternatively, some students choose to stay in a local guesthouse or in self-catering accommodation.
Location: Broadstairs is the best of both worlds: a small, lively seaside town with quick and easy access to London and Europe. London is 1 ½ hours by train, and Paris is only 2 ¾ hours away by Eurostar. Broadstairs has grown from a picturesque fishing village linked with Charles Dickens, into a cultural centre close to cinemas, theatres, shopping and sports centres, pubs, bistros and music venues.
Faculty Information:
These are special Academic English courses to help you prepare for university entrance and the IELTS examination. We also have established links with universities and colleges in Kent. We work closely with the University of Kent, and provide English Language support for the University College for the Creative Arts, and Imperial College London (Wye Campus). Your tutors will be full-time specialists in teaching English for Academic Purposes, and several are also IELTS examiners. The Course will also provide you with information and background to living and studying in the UK.
There are 3-month courses starting in January, April, July and September, and a 6-week course starting in August. We will gladly consider applications at other times and at short notice. You may enrol for more than one course. Courses are run at 2 levels:
- Pre-intermediate Stage 1)
- Intermediate/Advanced (Stage 2)
If you are not sure of your level, we will help you to test it and advise you about an appropriate class. If your level is too low for these courses, you may take an Intensive English class to improve it before transferring onto this course.
The University of Kent recognises our Pre-University Courses as being suitable preparation for undergraduate or postgraduate entrance. The University may also agree to accept our end-of-course report without the need for you to resit the IELTS exam.
University Applications - If you do not already have a place a university, we can assist you with finding a suitable course and with making an application.
The IELTS Examination - IELTS is the internationally recognised test in language proficiency required by universities and colleges. The IELTS examination can be taken locally and we will arrange this for you. (We will also be able to help you enrol and prepare for the TOEFL examination.)
