Glenn M. Benest's screenwriting workshops are unique in Los Angeles and for that matter anywhere else in the world. Mr. Benest is a working and produced writer who gives indepth guidance to each of the screenwriters he works with.
Having taught for many years at UCLA Extension and the American Film Institute, he could not provide enough hands on guidance to the writers who took his courses. As a result, he began these private workshops, so he keep the course size down and give focused attention to each writer's project. He guides writers through the drafts that are required to get their screenplay ready for marketing to studio, television network, or independent film buyers. He has intimate knowledge of all these markets as he has sold many projects to these various venues. For those attending his private workshops, each writer gets a significant amount of time reading his/her material and Mr. Benest as well as the class then gives detailed notes on how to make the material richer. Every writer's work is read out loud like a staged reading. This has proved invaluable to raising the standard of the writing. Four films have been launched by these workshops, including "Scream," "Teaching Mrs. Tingle," "Andre," and "Event Horizon." Mr. Benest is knowledgeable in giving feedback to a wide variety of genres, including action, horror, comedy, drama, romantic comedy, suspense, and dark comedy.
