How to Write a Novel is designed for writers who are not sure if they are ready for a full sized writing course like How to Write and Edit a Novel, or 7 Steps: Writing Your First Novel.

This course teaches the basics, in the same manner a "how to write book" will, but it focuses on helping the writer develop their voice and style. Creative writing assignments will help you learn to turn ideas into stories.

The goal of this course is to help writers improve their skills and become comfortable working with other writers. Everything needed to complete this course is located in the lesson plans.

The techniques taught here will help a person become a published author, but this course is really written with the hobbiest in mind. Students need only a desire to write and a 9th grade English level to take this course.

Faculty Information:
You are just starting and haven't written anything at all. Maybe you've finished the beginner's course 7 Steps: Writing Your First Novel but do not have the time to complete 20 assignments.

Maybe you have written for fun and do not want to turn your hobby into work. Maybe you need help getting your ideas organized or you don't think creative writing should be structured - then this is the course for you. I designed this course for all writers who do not want to turn their passion for writing into a 'job.'

You can write a novel and have it published - it is possible. It is being done by writers like you every month. There is no magic formula or talent excluding you from becoming a published author.

Learn to improve your odds of writing a marketable novel from Suzanne, a multi published author, working editor, a public speaker, an Internet writing instructor with three years of experience and author of Are You Ready to Submit? A Guide to Editing Fiction.

Other Activities:
Students will use their own work for assignments and receive informative useful tips on how they can improve their writing. The authors who contributed to this course and the information offered are relevant to all authors from all styles: science fiction, thrillers, suspense, healing, woman's fiction, family saga, mystery, romance, fantasy, and children's books. You do not need to have a manuscript in progress to start this course. It is possible to finish this course in less than twenty hours.

Students who score a grade higher than 70% will receive a certificate of Outstanding Achievement. Students with a grade over 90% will receive a certificate of academic excellence. Certificates of Merit are issued to students who complete a perfect test the first or second time. Certificates of achievement are handed out for excellent examples of the assignments.
