Write in a place that is calm and quiet, with only others like you, working away on their projects. You can start the day with a yoga class: enjoy breakfast out on the terrace and spend the morning in silence. After lunch you can go back to work or take time for swimming or walking.
Limnisa has its own beach. The sea is clear and perfect for snorkeling. The countryside is mountainous, wild and rugged, with mule tracks winding through olive groves.
Breakfast and lunch are both buffets, made up of good local produce, with traditional Greek recipes. All food at Limnisa is vegetarian. Tea, coffee, cake and fruit are available through the day.
ln the evenings we provide diner, of you can dine in a local taverna down by the waterfront in one of the two villages nearby (1 or 3km), or go off to Methana town (10km along the corniche.
In the middle of the week we'll be hosting a literary evening with food and drinks where each visitor can read something of their work! You can also sign up for a local excursion, perhaps to the sulphur baths, the volcano, the acropolis or the sunken city.
At the end of the week, we will have a celebration evening in Limnisa garden or beach, with music and (vegetarain) BBQ.
Optional: you can take part in the daily yoga session in the morning or go on one of the 'quiet walks' in the nearby olive groves. Those who want can also organize or take part in a sunset meditation session.
You are welcome to make use of all we have to offer: A multilingual library with plenty of fiction, history, art. The terraces, beach and sun-loungers. Bikes and snorkelling gear. Use of the Internet (though only for emailing please).
ACCOMMODATION Most guests are accommodated in rooms at Limnisa or in a shared apartment in the village, but it's also possible to stay in a tent in the garden or to rent a studio in the village. All accommodation has sea view.
Testimonial from Susan Stuart (New York): "I can't imagine a better environment for writing than Limnisa! Day and night the rhythm of the sea helped lull me into my most imaginative state, washing out the static of my mind. The Limnisa grounds have plenty of unique, private nooks for writing, so I always had a change of scenery at hand. Mariel and Philip were very welcoming and hospitable, and provided the option of a light structure to the day that worked well for everyone, but we were always free to do whatever we liked, including wandering the hills, swimming, or napping. The excursions around rugged and authentic Methana were a lot of fun, the meals healthy and absolutely delicious, and the company of the whole group of writers there was really special. I left feeling both rested and productive. Writing this note really makes me miss this special place - I hope to return!"
Every year Limnisa organizes a Short Story Competition with 20 prizes. The two winners will get a FREE place at one of our writers' retreats. Limnisa has planned several writers' retreats. Starting on May the 1st, September 5th and October 3rd. The summer retreat can also be done in combination with our Creative Writing Workshops starting on August 29. The maximum number of guests is 12. Limnisa provides tutoring on line for those interested.
Limnisa is a perfect escape from everyday life in beautiful natural surroundings. The centre has got a beach, a garden and is only a walk away from a small harbor with tavernas. From our terraces you can look out on the Saronic Gulf to the islands of Aegina and Angistri and the mountains of the Eastern Peloponese.
We organize (optional) Yoga Sessions every morning and provide home made Breakfast and Lunch Buffets for our guests. The atmosphere is relaxed, based on the belief that calm and open space can help you in being creative. The garden is dotted with tamarisk trees, orange trees, pines and shrubs, with only an old stone wall to separate it from the beach. Then it follows the line of the cliff, with rosemary, cistus and broom. A path leads to the next bay.
There are plenty of sunny and shady places to sit on your own and reflect, keep writing or read a book; you can go to sleep in a hammock or enjoy good talks with others on one of the many paved terraces.
Our center is a secluded spot, but only 15 minute walk from Ag. Georgios - a little village with two tavernas and a harbour with fishing boats. A walk of 30 minutes along the picturesque road in the other direction takes you to Ag.Nikolaos, another small coastal village with tavernas on the sea front, and also a hot sulfur bath described by Pausanius nearly two thousand years ago. Or you can take a walk up the old mule paths above Limnisa, through a landscape of stone terraced slopes and old olive groves with views back down to the sea and out across to the islands.
