Landsports:
Our athletics program is an important part of the daily schedule. Over the last decade, we have invested heavily in many new and unique state-of-the-art sports facilities. Campers are offered a well-rounded athletics program which combines instructional activities with house leagues, in-camp tournaments and the occasional intercamp exchange. While some competition adds a healthy spice to athletics, we prefer to emphasize individual improvement, participation and achievement in sports.
Pool:
Our indoor, heated pool is used whenever the lake water is too cool for comfortable swim instruction, or when rainy weather forces cancellation of outdoor activities. Thanks to an excellent lighting system complete with emergency back-up, campers are also able to enjoy night-time pool parties & games.
Skydome:
Our huge, 6,000 square-foot double gymnasium plays host to our basketball program. Designed with plexi-glass walls that highlight the beautiful mountain scenery, our Skydome features pro-style glass basketball backboards, electronic scoreboard, specially-designed adjustable-height backboards for younger campers, and a 63-foot tennis practice wall.
Thunderdome:
The 19,000 square-foot Thunderdome is the largest, all-weather facility of its kind in North American camping. The Thunderdome encloses a roller hockey rink, a high adventure rock-climbing centre, gymnastics area and our exciting in-line skate park. The Thunderdome is enclosed in plexi-glass walls, similar to our pool and Skydome. Its well-ventilated design means that the Thunderdome is comfortable even on hot summer days.
...other indoor facilities include our Dance Hall, Arts & Crafts Centre, Photo Lab (darkroom), staff lounge, and of course, the Dining Hall.
Waterfront:
The heart of any camp is its waterfront. At Pripstein's, we are fortunate to now own 90% of the lakefront on Lake of 3 Brothers, thereby ensuring a private, safe and clean locale for our waterfront program. The Quebec Ministry of Environment has consistently rated our lake water as "Class A Excellent".
There are no powerboats on our main lake, which greatly reduces the risk of boating accidents. Waterskiing, wake-boarding and knee-boarding, under the careful supervision of OWSA-certified instructors, takes place on our second lake, Lake St. Joseph.
All campers are required to pass a camp swim test to qualify for the various boating activities. Campers are required to wear life-jackets or PFD's in any watercraft. Pripstein's owns over 60 watercraft, providing ample equipment for our extensive boating program.
Faculty Information:
We create a warm, relaxed, family atmosphere at camp through much personal attention to each camper. By making campers feel that they are at a "home away from home", they are much more at ease to participate & enjoy activities and get used to group living. In order to preserve the special feeling of closeness which we have developed at camp, we purposely limit the camp registration.
Health: There is a camp doctor, and two nursing assistants at camp. Clinics are held twice daily in our well-equipped infirmary. The regional hospital and x-ray clinic are situated just a 15-minute drive from the camp.
Other Activities:
Daily Schedule:
After waking up at 8:00 am on a typical day, campers have breakfast, clean up their cabins, and then proceed to 3 morning activities. Lunch & rest hour follow, and then campers have 3 afternoon activities scheduled, the last one usually being General Swim. After supper, campers have an hour of Free Play, followed by Evening Program, bedtime snack, and various bedtimes dependent on age. Younger "Junior" campers (grades 1-3) go to almost all activities with their own cabin groups. While the Inter and Senior campers go to a majority of their activities as a cabin group, they do have some individual elective choice in their schedule.
Facility Information:
Campers live in dormitory-style cabins. Cabins are equipped with washrooms and electrical facilities, as well as smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and emergency lights. Every night, there is at least one "O.D." (On-Duty person) in each cabin from the campers' bedtime until the counsellors' curfew.
