Our academy is located in Uruguay’s capital, Montevideo, and offers exclusively Spanish courses for foreign students. The academy runs individual and group courses for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced and also organizes courses for Spanish teachers.
We offer you a service based on academic excellence, professional service and complete immersion. Academic excellence at us is guaranteed through several factors, but especially by its teaching staff and the study materials used.
Professional service is a second important principle of our academy. Students are guided and helped through their entire stay in Uruguay and indeed beyond that: from the very beginning of a contact with you until your departure and beyond. Staff is multilingual (Spanish, English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese) and makes sure that you feel comfortable. In order to ensure this, we insist on promptness, kindness, seriousness and reliability in all interactions with students. You are welcome to speak with management at any time should you have complaints, which we hope will not be the case.
Complete immersion is the third basic principle the academia embraces. The founders of the academia believe that Spanish classes alone are not as productive as Spanish classes given in a context of permanent cultural immersion. There are three facets to this principle:
- Classroom introduction to Hispanic, Latin American and national culture through printed documents, classroom interaction, sound and video documents.
- Extracurricular programs which are not compulsory for the students, but recommended, and free of charge.
- The possibility to live with a host family or in a shared apartment with other students (of which at least one is a “local”). The host family approach has worked extremely well and is an excellent opportunity for the students to apply the learned material in a real life setting.
We offer our students a series of possibilities and services that arise out of the successful cooperation of both schools. For instance the possibility to swiftly move from one school to the other, without extra charges or handling fees. Students simply pay the going rate at each school. Schools will help students make bookings for transport (bus, air, ship) from one destination to the other. The academic coordinators of both schools are in direct contact with each other and really do coordinate the academic experience of each student. We use almost identical study materials and the advantage for the student of this arrangement is obvious.
Faculty Information:
The academic excellence is guaranteed through several factors, but especially by its teaching staff. Indeed, all teachers are qualified Spanish instructors with a university diploma in relevant disciplines. They all have long experience in teaching Spanish as a foreign language and are highly motivated. Many of them also teach at prestigious local universities in parallel to their activity at the academy. An academic coordinator makes sure that the high teaching standards are maintained and continuous training is offered to all teachers at the school. The academic excellence is also guaranteed by the institute’s teaching materials, which have been designed in-house – taking into account our teachers’ experiences and the local differences of Spanish - especially for the type of classes offered.
Other Activities:
Extracurricular programs which are not compulsory for the students, but recommended, and free of charge. At least twice per week, sometimes daily, a specially-trained member of the academia’s staff leads a group of students through local expositions or museums, shows them different parts of town with an introduction to the history and architecture of each place, accompanies them to specific music or film events, etc.
Facility Information:
The academy is located in a historic building in the old part of Montevideo, in the pedestrian area. It offers latest technology in a historic setting. Students have access to a rooftop terrace overlooking the central square. Public transport to all other parts of town is ensured by the very efficient bus system. The school has 6 full-size classrooms with air conditioning.
