The Istituto Italiano – officially recognized by the Italian Ministry of Public Education - is located in the heart of the city, in a beautiful XVII century building, just a short walk from the cathedral. The classroom windows overlook Brunelleschi’s Dome and the Baptistry, offering a truly unique panorama.
The courses, developed in accordance with the guidelines of the Council of Europe’s Modern Languages Program, are held from Monday through Friday and are structured in different ways, from 2 hours per day to 6 hours per day. There are also individual courses (from 2 to 8 hours per day).
There are 7 course levels, from absolute beginners to specialization courses.
Classes consist of not more than 10-12 students.
Supplementary cultural and professional courses are held by experts in the afternoons.
The Istituto also has a Music and Art Departments.
One of the Istituto’s aims is bring the students into close contact with Italian life. Each day students are offered many interesting extra-curricular cultural and recreational activities.
Our lodging coordinator pays special attention to student accommodations. The families, apartments or pensions are carefully screened and monitored. Most of the housing is centrally located, or easily reached by public transportation thanks to the Istituto’s downtown location.
Faculty Information:
All the faculty members are graduates of the University of Florence. They are competent, experienced, enthusiastic, friendly, patient ad sensitive to the students' needs. They have all completed a special course in teaching Italian as a second language and are a permanent team of specialists.
Other Activities:
One of the Istituto’s aims is bring the students into close contact with Italian life. Each day students are offered many interesting extra-curricular cultural and recreational activities: Sunday outings, museum visits, lectures, Italian films, dinners in typical local restaurants, evenings at the opera, concerts, sports, etc.

The Istituto’s nearly 500 square meters house facilities that are extremely important for anyone who wants to acquire a complete and up-to-date knowledge of the Italian language and culture: a well-stocked library with books on a large range of topics, a projection room with a giant screen and over 100 Italian films, a language laboratory, a vast collection of classical and modern music, a large secretarial office where the staff is always willing to give a helping hand. The Istituto’s students can use all these facilities at no charge.
