The Center is centrally located, only a few minutes from the beach - you can walk or cycle anywhere. Language programs at Port Douglas ELC are very personal, and courses are designed to suit your level. All of our courses are conducted in very small groups, with class sizes limited to ensure a high quality of learning. Intensive courses, combined with a friendly and relaxed learning environment, guarantee good results for students at all levels.
Port Douglas ELC specializes in English courses for business executives and professionals, intensive language courses at all levels, First Certificate, CAE, Proficiency and IELTS examination courses. Teachers are highly qualified (British Masters degrees) and permanent. We offer you:

- Intensive English Program:
The Intensive English Program is a total immersion program that is ideally suited to those wishing to learn, upgrade or perfect their English. This is a program of English study, that is custom-tailored to meet the needs of individual students and groups. Students are exposed to a wide range of materials and do not follow one particular textbook.
Courses are available at all levels, from Beginner to Advanced. Various aspects of language (conversation, reading, writing, listening, grammar, and vocabulary) are covered at all levels of proficiency. Teaching groups are small (maximum 6 students). The center has excellent computing and self-access facilities, which provide extensive language and self-study practice.
For more advanced level students who plan to take a language examination, or who are planning to attend college or university, there are courses focusing on the development of reading, writing, and vocabulary, as well as examination strategies and note-taking skills.
Courses in the Intensive English Program are available for a minimum of two (2) weeks and a maximum of fifty two (52) weeks. Courses begin every Monday (except when Monday is a public holiday). Small teaching groups mean more individual attention, greater opportunities for speaking practice and a friendly and comfortable learning environment.
The timetable includes 25 hours tuition per week, plus 5 hours of additional self study and access to our computer facilities after school. The study programs at Regent are intensive, and tuition is with a teacher for the full 25 hours per week.
- Executive English Program:
The Executive English Program is an intensive, "fast-track" course designed for professional, business and company personnel who need English for their work. The Executive English Program offers short intensive courses designed to meet the varying needs of professionals, business executives, and companies. The courses are individualized to suit your particular professional needs. Teaching groups are small, with a maximum limit of 4 participants.
This course is for students at an intermediate level, or above. Courses are for individuals or small groups (4 students), and are highly intensive. The skills taught on the Executive Program are chosen from:
- Business vocabulary and discourse;
- Making presentations, speeches, and proposals;
- Effective telephone techniques;
- Interviewing procedures;
- International business etiquette;
- Attending and conducting meetings;
- Negotiating skills;
- Business writing;
- Or topics selected by you that relate to your particular profession.
Courses are for a minimum of one week and a normal maximum of four weeks (longer by special arrangement). They include 30 hours tuition per week, plus supervised self-access study, and additional use of the center's self-access facilities after normal tuition times.
- Executive Retreat:
Our special, luxurious ‘Executive Retreat’ course is individually designed for those who are looking for an intensive English program combined with a unique, memorable, and relaxing getaway. A one week course includes up to 20 hours of language tuition, and activities selected from:
- A luxury spa and massage;
- Breakfast with the Birds;
- A night boat trip on the Daintree River;
- A tour of the Tablelands.
- Professional and Business English Program:
Business and Professional English courses combine general English study with specific business or professional skills and language. Students who have completed our Professional English courses include accountants, lawyers, physiotherapists, nurses, teachers and management consultants. Topics are selected to suit an individual student's requirements and interests. These courses are ideally suited to professional people who wish to improve their English skills for work purposes.
Business English courses are for a minimum of 1 week and a maximum of 8 weeks, and are limited to students at an intermediate level of English, or above. They include 25 hours tuition per week plus 5 hours of guided self study.
The maximum group size is 5 students per class. Because we understand that professional people often have limited time, this course is available for those who can study for 1 week only, and students can begin on any day of the week.
- Exam Preparation Courses:
Port Douglas ELC offers special courses to prepare students for the Cambridge First Certificate (FCE), the Certificate in Advanced English (CAE), the Cambridge Proficiency Examinations and the IELTS test. There are also courses for the TOEFL test (both paper and computer versions). Regent's intensive programs in small teaching groups are very popular, and Regent has an excellent success rate in the examinations.
Teaching groups are small (average of 4 students per class, and a maximum of 6) to ensure students receive individual attention in the lead-up to the examination. Teaching is for 25 hours per week, plus 5 hours per week of optional self-study.
- IELTS (International English Language Testing System):
IELTS is the most widely accepted English qualification for entry to university and tertiary institutions in Australia, New Zealand, and Britain. Preparation courses at Regent can begin at any time. The exam is held in Cairns each month, but may be taken at other centers at any time by appointment. The examination fee (payable to the exam center) is $220. Transport is provided to and from Cairns for the purpose of sitting the examination. There is no extra charge for this service. The length of the course is 10-20 weeks depending on your entry level.
- Cambridge Examinations:
The length of each course is 10 weeks. The study program focuses on the language and skills required for the exam.
- Special Interest Courses:
We can arrange a holiday program that combines English language learning with excursions, or your special interest, such as golf or scuba diving. Please contact us for further information and costs for a personalized study program or for Study Tour Groups.

* Accommodation: As an international tourist destination, Port Douglas offers a wide range of accommodation. Port Douglas ELC recommends staying with an Australian family. It is an ideal way to learn more about Australian life and the local area, and of course offers a further opportunity to practice English.
Home stay accommodation will cost A$ 200 per week. This includes your own room and 3 meals a day, including weekends. Port Douglas ELC offers assistance in arranging suitable accommodation prior to your arrival.

We have air conditioned classes, kitchen, lounge, balcony, self-study center.
The Center it is well-equipped with excellent library resources, listening and video facilities, and up-to-date computer equipment. A free email service is available to students. Well equipped with excellent library, audio, video, CD Rom resources, unlimited Internet access.
