Karen Lee, author of "The Occasional Vegetarian". I'm very excited about my new high-flavor low-fat recipes, and look forward to cooking with you soon. In addition to the sample menus listed, I have many new unpublished recipes for students who have studied with me in the past.
My New York City cooking classes are on Tuesday nights from 6:00 to 9:30 PM, and on Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 11:00 to 2:30 PM. Weekend classes are also available 2-3 times a year. In the summer I have classes in the Hamptons on Wednesday nights from 5-9 PM. Each series consists of four, 4 hour cooking classes. During each class we will prepare and eat a delicious dinner (or lunch) served with wine. Make-ups can be arranged if I am given 5 days notice. All cooking classes are taught with the subtext of high-flavor, low fat.
Karen Lee, the Private Chef, now offers (in addition to her full service catering) a Small Dinner Party Special (2 to 14 guests):
- For people who do not require full service catering
- For people who have time to shop
- For people who enjoy having food preparation done in their own kitchen
- For people who want to save money.
With this Private Chef Service, you have many options: You may prefer to do the shopping yourself or to have me shop. You may choose to have me stay to cook or to have me prepare the food ahead of time to be reheated.
Simple or elaborate menus are available. Menus are designed around your request. If you say, "I love steak" then I will suggest a few steak dishes such as Ginger Beef, Sichuan Steak au Poivre, or Marinated and Grilled Porterhouse and so forth. I look forward to cooking for you!
For example, the estimated preparation time for a dinner party for 10 to 12 people would be 8 to 12 hours depending on the menu. If you have a housekeeper to wash dishes during the day, then I can prepare more food in less time. Once you have chosen the menu, I can give you an exact cost of labor and food.

There are contemporary semi-professional stainless steel gas cookers and hobs, stainless steel sinks and modern units and worktops.
