Direct Communicative Technique methods are used throughout. These are currently considered the most effective systems of broadening the students' knowledge of vocabulary, structures and idiom.

Using only English, the teachers encourage the students to practice the language. Their interest is stimulated through new situations and alternative ways of expression. The courses cater for both fluency and accuracy.

Students are given basic handouts according to their level and as prescribed by the Academy. These are complemented with material from the Resource Library of the school. Audio and video material is also used.

We offer expert tuition in a number of courses. The level of each participant is carefully assessed before the commencement of the course. On completion of the course the participant is awarded a Certificate of Attendance.

Everyday English 10
This is a vacation course aimed at helping participants to communicate freely in English, with emphasis on fluency and accuracy. Besides learning grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation, the participants are given ample opportunity to practice the spoken language through discussions, debates and conversation activities, such as role-play and pair-work.

Everyday English 6
This is a course similar to Everyday English 10 but designed for the winter months. Being a vacation course it is aimed at helping participants to communicate freely in English, with emphasis on fluency and accuracy. Besides learning grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation, the participants are given ample opportunity to practice the spoken language through discussion and conversation.

Business English 6
This course is intended for practicing managers, senior business students and secretarial personnel in administration, export, finance, general business, marketing, personnel and production. The course is designed to improve everyday spoken and written English and especially to promote fluency in business communication. This course includes Business letters - Inquiries, Orders, Complaints, etc. Situations from general management to the entertainment of business colleagues are discussed. Telephone English forms an important part of the course.

English For Special Purposes
As English has established itself as the language of Science and Technology, it is felt that students in this field of study would benefit greatly from our courses. Areas of interest which are offered include Medicine, Engineering, Management, Aviation.

Personalized "General" English
This is tuition on a one-to-one basis. The Personalized General English is aimed at helping students to communicate freely in everyday spoken and written English.

Personalized "Special" English
This is a one-to-one course offering participants practice in the English language for use in a specific field selected by the participant. The Academy should receive full details of the subject level and duration of the course at least 3 weeks in advance so that a program can be formulated and a specialized teacher can be appointed.

Although the Academy keeps comprehensive and up-to-date resource material participants are encouraged to provide their own texts to make the course more relevant to their own needs. Activities in connection with participant's specific interest can be organized by the Academy.

The English Language Academy is fully licensed as a school by the Malta Ministry of Education, is a founder member of FELTOM (Federation of English Language Teaching Organization in Malta). The school prepares students for international examinations such as IELTS, TOEFL and Cambridge examinations.

The school residence is located in a 2-star hotel and is close to the school (c. 10 minutes walk) and to the center of Sliema. We believe it offers great value for money for people who want to be close to the sea, school and nightlife at a sensible price.

Faculty Information:
All our staff are qualified, dedicated and experienced teachers who are native or bilingual speakers of English. Direct Communicative Technique methods are used throughout. These are currently considered the most effective systems of broadening the students' knowledge of vocabulary, structures and idiom. Classes are normally run between Mondays & Fridays. Due to varying travel schedules, alternative arrangements can be made. Students’ level of proficiency is established through a written assessment test on the first day of school. Tests can be sent for (and are also available on our website) and completed before the commencement of the course. All students who attend a minimum of 80% of the course are entitled to a Certificate of Attendance.

Our vacation courses are aimed at helping participants to communicate freely in English, with emphasis on fluency and accuracy. Besides learning grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation, the participants are given ample opportunity to practice the spoken language through discussions, debates and conversation activities, such as role-play and pair-work.

Other Activities:
The residence is just 30 meters to the beach (not 1 or 2 kilometers). How many language schools can offer that? You can swim from the typical Maltese rock beach and diving and water sports are available for the popular months. There is also a swimming pool about 200 meters from the Residence, which guests can use for a small daily fee in summer. All rooms have a television and bathroom. An internet cafe is available for about 1 Lm per hour. In the summer month’s individuals may book a shared room, and will be put in a room with between 1 and 3 other students.

Facility Information:
The school is equipped with audio-visual material and a Teacher Resource Library. Participants are encouraged to inform the school of any special interest in order to make the course more useful and meaningful.

We offer students a wide choice of accommodation, including a School Residence, several hotels of different standards, self-catering apartments as well as accommodation in the homes of English-speaking families. This provides the student with a wonderful opportunity to practise English during his/her stay in Malta. All accommodation is located within walking distance of the school or on the main bus route.
