Syracuse is known as the greatest classical Greek city outside of Athens, full of history and art, expressing all the variety and all the cultural richness of Sicily. Today Syracuse, with its 200.000 inhabitants, is divided into two parts: the modern part in expansion, and the historic island center of Syracuse, Ortigia. The old center immediately reveals the charm of a city that has witnessed almost three thousand years of history and the significant expressions of the most important Mediterranean civilizations.
Learning Italian language in Sicily, where locals and visitors gather to swim in the Ionic Mediterranean. The school is located in the heart of the ancient city, Ortigia, in a completely restored 15th century Sicilian building.
Along Ortigia's outer walls you will find outdoor cafès and local restaurants, a vibrant open market with endless stalls selling Mediterranean fish, fruits and vegetables, under the background of the omnipresent sea. Streets typically end at the sea wall, and in many places you can descend the stairs onto ancient stones, where locals and visitors gather to swim in the Ionic Mediterranean. Walking through the historical center you will meet the people of Siracusa and will be able to communicate with them using Italian language. We offer you a unique possibility in Siracusa to attend an Italian language course focusing particularly on oral communication.
Our modern communicative approach is conceived to stimulate your interest in learning Italian language. The course contents cover all aspects of grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening, reading and writing. We usually concentrate on grammar in the first part of the classes with freer practice and skills work in the later parts.
There are 12 language levels ranging from beginner to proficient. The Proficient level, corresponding to level C2 of the Common European Framework and level 11-12 at our system, is organized only in certain periods of the year and upon request from Universities or Higher Educational Institutes.
On your first day at school you take a specially designed written, listening and oral placement test, so that we can place you in the appropriate class for your language level. We hold regular progress tests at the end of each level. These enable you and your teachers to measure your language development and evaluate your performance over a period of time. Learning Italian language with our programs is suitable for all the students who want to improve their Italian.
The schools handle the selection and the reservation of housing accommodation best suited to your needs. Accommodation options can be within walking distance of the school or well connected by public transport. Accommodation is available from the Sunday before the beginning of the course through to the Saturday after the course ends.
This is the ideal situation for students who wish to experience Italian daily life and to practice the language in an informal atmosphere. Our homestay accommodation consists of young or older couples, either with or without children, single parent families and people living alone.
Naturally it will take a little time to settle in and get used to your new environment, but it will be without doubt an interesting experience. Homestay accommodation offers a variety of living arrangements: a single or twin room, breakfast, half board and, in some cases, use of the kitchen.

Syracuse is made for walking, since the center is relatively small and traffic is limited. Streets and squares are also social centers, and throughout the day you will encounter fellow students as they walk from one place to another, making for a convivial and vibrant social atmosphere.
Syracuse is a seaport, and you will find the sea walls lined with cafés where students, travelers and locals gather to talk and to watch the sunset each evening. Syracuse hosts a rich program of shows, exhibitions and cultural events, and in the historic center there is usually an event every weekend. The school organizes weekly activities: theatre, walks, visits to museums, dinners, weekend excursions to Taormina, Etna, Palermo, Aeolian Islands. For students interested in sports and adventures, the school will organize sailing, scuba diving, snorkeling, windsurfing, fishing, soccer and tennis.
The school building includes a traditional central courtyard and three floors, newly renovated to include large air conditioned classrooms, computer lab and multimedia room with audio and video facilities, photography lab, painting studio, library and student lounge.
