URUGUAY: Bordered by the enormous territories of Argentina and Brazil, by large rivers and by the Atlantic Ocean, Uruguay is occupies the perfect setting in South America. People are astonished by the pure white sand of its beaches, the dunes alternating with creeks and its small bays with peaceful waters. Of its 3.5 million inhabitants, over 95% are literate, and Montevideo is one of the safest capital cities in the world. Students frequently comment on the friendly welcome the local people offer, and the peaceful pace of life means that people always have time to stop for a chat or to show you the way.
OUR SCHOOL: It is situated in a pretty, safe and central neighbourhood of Montevideo, called "Parque Rodó". This is a residential area where you can find the National Library, bars, restaurants, shops, the university of Architecture and a beautiful big park. The main commercial street is within 6 blocks of the school, and the beach is about 10 blocks away.
The school itself is a beautiful traditional house. On the ground floor there is the reception, the office, four large classrooms, a library, two toilets, a fully equipped kitchen, a living room with television, a computer for the students to use, and outdoors a patio and a roof terrace. The living room or the terrace is the place where students meet up in the breaks or after class, and we also go there for social meetings, like a welcome drink on the first day, barbecues or movie nights. On the first floor you can find the school residence, which has five bedrooms for students and a bathroom. The whole building has Wi-Fi.
OUR COURSES: We offer a range of Spanish courses depending on your repuirements and preferences, including one-to-one and group classes. There is a maximum of 8 students in the group classes. The most popular course consists of two hours of grammar classes and two hours of conversation classes per day, in a small group. All the teachers are native speakers with many years of experience teaching Spanish to foreigners.
We also offer a range of combination courses, in which you study Spanish and participate in a sport or activity such as sailing, tennis, horseriding, scuba diving, tango, windsurfing, volunteer work or an internship. In addition, we offer a full programme of social activities so you can get to know your classmates, the city and the culture of Uruguay.
ACCOMMODATION: Many students choose to stay in the school residence, or we can arrange a host family, private apartment, hostel or hotel for you. Airport transfers are also available on request.
Our teachers are graduates in Spanish philology and specialised in teaching foreigners. They are all native Spanish speakers with many years of experience of teaching Spanish to speakers of other languages and they are passionate about language and interested in the students' experiences. They are always ready to listen to any doubt or problem students may have with the Spanish language. Weekly meetings are held with the teachers to discuss the progress of our students and to take on board their suggestions and comments.
At the end of the course, students realize that they have not only learned Spanish but made new friends as well!
As well as offering combination Spanish and Sports courses, La Herradura has a full social programme which all students are welcome to take part in. It includes extra-curricular activities to suit a wide range of budgets and tastes.
