Within the stunning Andes in Peru lies the old colonial town of Cusco, the former capital of the legendary Inca Empire and close to the world famous lost city of the Incas, Machu Picchu. This is the perfect setting to study Spanish and learn the Spanish language while immersed in Peruvian culture. You will very soon be amazed by the dazzling and vibrant way of living, all its little Bars and restaurants with a very spectacular atmosphere, the bright and colorful markets and of course one of the most amazing, breathtaking views of cusco and the Andes.
Our Spanish programs in Peru run at four locations: start with your Spanish lessons in the city of Cusco, and continue in the Sacred Valley of the Incas or in the Amazon rainforest, in Tambopata. Additionally we offer Spanish courses in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Amauta Spanish School was the first language school opened in cusco in 1996. Ever since this school is the most busy and important school in Cusco with about 850 to 1000 students per year.
We offer high quality Spanish Courses, Accommodation, Volunteer Placements, Excursions a variety of special or customized programs for its students. We are represented by a large number of agents all over the world. The average number of students attending our school is between 30 - 50 in low season and between 80 - 110 in high season (June, July, August).
Our main desire is to make your stay in Cusco as enjoyable as possible. From the moment that you arrive you will be looked after. We pick you up from the airport and we will offer a walking tour around Cusco, providing information about money exchange, where to find a supermarket or clinic, basically everything you need to know for the daily life in Cusco. We also provide a 24 hour emergency number for our students in order to assist you with all your concerns.
The students visiting us are from all over the world which creates a great international atmosphere . About half of our students are between 20 and 30 years old; the other half vary between 18 and 65. Our Spanish School is recognized by the Peruvian Ministry of Education. It is possible to obtain university credits through de University of Southern Mississippi.
Amauta is known for its interactive, communicative and personal teaching methods. Standard group or individual programs include four hours of instruction per day from Monday to Friday.
Spanish Programs:
- Spanish Language Program: Our Spanish School offers you customized tutoring at the level and pace especially suited to your personal goals. Our Spanish School is known for its interactive, communicative and personal teaching methods. All standard programs include four hours of private or group instruction per day. Additional hours can be arranged for.
- Interactive, Communicative Teaching: Successfully implementing the interactive method depends entirely on the personal attention teachers are able to give students. Therefore, our groups are small and all courses are (super) intensive. The make-up of the group is determined according to the students abilities; the first day of the course begins with an oral and written placement test. Our Spanish teachers are experienced native speakers that are highly skilled professionals.
- Levels: We work with four levels, fixing the goals for each based on our experience and in accordance with the curriculum of the Instituto Cervantes and the Council of Europe. (Common European Framework of References).
* Beginners (A1+A2+B1): The student will be able to formulate and understand short sentences relating to basic necessities and forms of politeness.
* Intermediate (B2): The student will be able to express himself, perhaps sometimes with a little difficulty, but usually spontaneously and independently, in everyday situations.
* Advanced (C1): The student will have advanced communication ability, even in complicated situations.
* Superior (C2): Clearing up minor imperfections. Refining pronunciation and intonation. Communicating, without difficulty, with people who are native Spanish speakers.
Whether a complete beginner or an advanced speaker, a recent or returning student, we can offer customized tutoring at a level and pace especially suited to a student's personal goals.
Standard Spanish Courses:
- Group Course: All our group courses (at least 8 different sub-levels) start any Monday of the year except for complete beginners. Classes take place either in the morning or in the afternoon. All groups work with two different teachers who rotate, so the students get exposed to the different varieties of spoken Spanish. There is a maximum of six students per group. From complete beginners to very advanced.
- Individual Course: A program especially tailored for our students specific needs and interests. Students can give us their preferences for certain hours and teachers. Specially recommended for people that have specific needs (e.g. more/less grammar, special learning needs, younger than 16 years, Survival Spanish: a fast survey of Spanish directed towards speaking Spanish while traveling in Latin America, etc.).
- Best of Both (combination group and individual): Take advantage of having fun, dynamic classes, and learning more from and about student's friends in a group class (four hours a day), in combination with the personal attention you can only get from a private teacher, during (two hours) the afternoons.
The above listed programs start every Monday throughout the whole year In Cusco and the Sacred Valley. If you desire to take classes in the rainforest of Tambopata the starting dates for 2010 are:

We offer four different kind of accommodation possibilities that you can choose from during your stay in Cusco:
- Living with a Guest family gives you the perfect possibility to practice your Spanish while living with a Peruvian family, taste the rich home cooked peruvian food and learn more about the Peruvian culture.
- If you like to have more contact with the other students from different parts of the world and live very close to the city center, the Student house will be perfect for you. You can chill out on the big sunny terrace with a view over cusco, watch a movie in the living room/common area or use the kitchen to cook diner.
- The Student Flats are suited for those who plan a longer stay in Cusco and want to live independently, participate in daily life activities and events, such as preparing meals and go shopping at the colorful Peruvian markets etc. All flats offer the students a maximum of security and comfort with a fully equipped kitchen, a furnished living room and bedrooms. In each flat live between 3-6 students maximum.
