Our Spanish School is known for its interactive, communicative and personal teaching methods. Standard group or individual programs include four hours of instruction per day from Monday to Friday.
The complementary cultural courses (freely included in all programs) are an excellent complement of the course since they are a great way of improving your Spanish in activities all directed towards learning in a dynamic environment where you will learn about Latin American and Peruvian culture. All programs are available at three locations: the beautiful city of Cusco, the picturesque Sacred Valley and the unforgettable Rainforest of Peru.
Our Spanish School offers high quality Spanish Courses, Accommodation and Volunteer Placements and Excursions for its students. We are represented by a large number of agents all over the world. The average number of students attending our school is between 30 - 50 in low season and between 80 - 110 in high season (June, July, August).
About 30% of our students is from Northern Europe, 30% from the States and 30% from other countries including Japan, Australia, France, Italy and Brasil. About half of our students are between 20 and 30 years old; the other half vary between 18 and 65. Our Spanish School is recognized by the Peruvian Ministry of Education. It is possible to obtain university credits through de University of Southern Mississippi.
* SPANISH LANGUAGE PROGRAM: Our Spanish School offers you customized tutoring at the level and pace especially suited to your personal goals. Our Spanish School is known for its interactive, communicative and personal teaching methods. All standard programs include four hours of private or group instruction per day. Additional hours can be arranged for.
* INTERACTIVE, COMMUNICATIVE TEACHING: Successfully implementing the interactive method depends entirely on the personal attention teachers are able to give students. Therefore, our groups are small and all courses are (super) intensive. The make-up of the group is determined according to the students abilities; the first day of the course begins with an oral and written placement test (see: Placement Test).
* LEVELS: We work with four levels, fixing the goals for each based on our experience and in accordance with the curriculum of the Instituto Cervantes and the Council of Europe. (Common European Framework of References).
- Beginners (A1+A2+B1): The student will be able to formulate and understand short sentences relating to basic necessities and forms of politeness.
- Intermediate (B2): The student will be able to express himself, perhaps sometimes with a little difficulty, but usually spontaneously and independently, in everyday situations.
- Advanced (C1): The student will have advanced communication ability, even in complicated situations.
- Superior (C2): Clearing up minor imperfections. Refining pronunciation and intonation. Communicating, without difficulty, with people who are native Spanish speakers.
Whether a complete beginner or an advanced speaker, a recent or returning student, we can offer customized tutoring at a level and pace especially suited to a student's personal goals.
* Special Courses:
- Travelers' Survival Spanish: The perfect course for travelers who want to start communicating in "daily" Spanish. Functional grammar only and speaking, speaking, and speaking. Group or individual.
- Super Intensive Immersion Program: Especially designed for those people who need to learn Spanish very quickly, usually for employment reasons, wanting to make the most out of their stay in Cusco. This program is based on a total immersion model which leads to guaranteed success in a short number of weeks. Individual classes only.
- Quechua - native language of the Incas: Only a couple of hours will give you an insight idea of how rich traditional Peruvian culture is. People at the countryside will greatly appreciate your efforts: when hiking and trekking, an "Allillanchu" will immediately open doors for you.
- Inca Civilization: Learn more about this incredible old civilization in our newly designed course including lectures, field trips, videos and pictures. Students do four hours of Spanish Group Classes during the morning and participate in the "Inca Civilization" class two hours in the afternoon. Fixed starting dates only, offered three times a year.
- Course for Health Care and Social Workers: Fixed starting dates, starting in January 2005. Specially designed for doctors, nurses etc. focusing on medical terminology and information to develop skills for improving communication with your Spanish speaking clients.
* STANDARD SPANISH COURSES:
- Group Course: All our group courses (at least 8 different sub-levels) start any Monday of the year except for complete beginners. Classes take place either in the morning or in the afternoon. All groups work with two different teachers who rotate, so the students get exposed to the different varieties of spoken Spanish. There is a maximum of six students per group. From complete beginners to very advanced.
- Individual Course: A program especially tailored for our students specific needs and interests. Students can give us their preferences for certain hours and teachers. Specially recommended for people that have specific needs (e.g. more/less grammar, special learning needs, younger than 16 years, Survival Spanish: a fast survey of Spanish directed towards speaking Spanish while traveling in Latin America, etc.).
- Best of Both (combination group and individual): Take advantage of having fun, dynamic classes, and learning more from and about student's friends in a group class (four hours a day), in combination with the personal attention you can only get from a private teacher, during (two hours) the afternoons.
- Total Immersion Program: This program is tailored for people who need to learn Spanish quickly, mainly for employment reasons. The total immersion model leads to guaranteed success in a short period of time. Special attention will be given to cultural differences between the western world and Latin America (barriers, codes etc.) and Spanish in (formal) work situations.
During the morning, the student begins with five hours of private classes. Immediately after classes, the teacher will take him/her out for lunch to one of the restaurants close to the Plaza. After a short break, the student and teacher visit special places for two hours. A variety of visits can be organized: tourist highlights, hospitals, shops, markets, university, etc.
The program is flexible and can be customized for individual students. On Saturday, the student will be offered a day excursion (either visit to ruins, rafting, hikes). Since all classes are individual, the course can start any Monday of the year. There are no level requirements.
* SPANISH FOR MEDICAL PURPOSES: Designed for doctors, nurses, social workers etc. The course focuses on medical terminology and information to improve communication with Spanish speaking patients. Special attention will be given to cultural differences between the western world and Latin America including information on subjects such as health, illness, family issues, etc. and how they are dealt with by the Latin Community.
Visits to hospitals and lectures on subjects as Traditional Medicine etc., are included. Six hours per day: four hours of Spanish in the morning and two hours of lectures / visits in the afternoon. There are fixed starting dates and a high-beginners level is a requirement. Maximum number of students: 6 in the Spanish Course, 10 in the afternoon Program.
* SPANISH FOR 55+: Young people have different ways of learning, different ways of spending there spare time and different interests than older people. That’s why our Spanish School is proud to present our 55+ program, specifically tailored to needs and interests of elders, offered during the best seasons (in terms of weather and tourism in Cusco).
Besides Spanish (2 hours a day), the program includes extra activities as excursions and lectures on Peruvian Culture and History (2 hours a day). This course has fixed starting dates and an intermediate level of Spanish is a requirement. Maximum number of students: 6 in the Spanish Course, 10 in the afternoon Program.
* SPANISH FOR UNIVERSITY STUDENTS: Are you interested in studying Spanish at our Spanish School because you can obtain university credits? Register for our special “Spanish for University Students” course and take profit of being part of this special group of extra motivated, young people who want to know much more about the Spanish Language and Latin American Literature and Culture. The program includes visits to sites of interest, lectures about Latin American History and Literature and discussion groups about several topics.
Four hours of Spanish daily and two hours of extra activities. This course has fixed starting dates and an intermediate level of Spanish is a requirement. Maximum number of students: 6 in the Spanish Course, 10 in the afternoon Program.
