Our Institute is situated in a private mansion close to the town center and our fifteen member makes every effort to offer a high quality language education centered on oral communication as well as giving a warm and personalized reception.

Courses for adults who wish to express themselves with more ease and confidence in a personal or professional context with the aim of gaining in autonomy. The program lasts two weeks and is renewable according to your objectives and availability.

A program designed for directors, managers and people in charge who come from different walks of life and areas of activity and are in direct contact with colleagues or partners who speak French. The course is structured and personalized to suit the identified common needs.

- Learn to communicate in various professional situations (presentations, negotiations, conferences, telephone conversations etc.)
- Broaden linguistic knowledge and vocabulary used in the business world
- Understand aspects of intercultural communication better
- Cours Particuliers
A personalized course which allows you to improve in certain precise areas of the language, study a particular sector or theme or even prepare for a specific exam.
Objectives
- Defined by you in a questionnaire to be sent to us before the start of the course
- Priority is given to practical aspects of the language: improve listening and written comprehension, learn to speak up, communicate in everyday situations
ACCOMMODATION
Homestay
The homes are rigorously selected within 20 minutes on foot or by bus from the Institute. Please note that the procedure for arrivals is after 18:00 on Sunday and on Saturday mornings for departures.
3 solutions are possible
- Half-board: you stay with a homestay family and it includes breakfast and dinner; you have lunch elsewhere and can not use your host’s kitchen. This type of accommodation encourages linguistic and cultural immersion.
- Bed & breakfast: you stay with a homestay family and it includes breakfast; you have your other meals elsewhere and you can not use the kitchen unless they agree. This kind of accommodation is recommended for people who want to be independent - contact with your host family is rather limited.
- Room with access to the kitchen: you stay with a homestay family and no meals are provided, but you have access to the kitchen to prepare your own meals - you and your host decide on what times you can use the kitchen. This kind of accommodation is recommended for people who want to be independent and/or have a special diet.
- Private apartments
Furnished apartments with equipped kitchen, linen kit supplied, no cleaning included. A 5 minute walk from the town center or right in the center, and a 10 minute walk from the school.
METHODS
The use of varied methods encourages communication: debates, presentations, role-playing, exercises in written expression, tests and dialog. The teaching materials, in the form of authentic documents (press, documentary films, audio extracts, illustrations), provide a concrete approach to living French.
A primary goal is to enable students to express themselves as easily as possible for a personal and/or professional goal, to gain autonomy in their communication. For this reason the teaching focus essentially on oral communication based on real situations, as the starting point for written expression, grammar and vocabulary.
Faculty Information:
During the course the program is reviewed and re-orientated according to requests formulated by the group and this according to its evolution and progress. This allows our students to focus their attention on the targeted objectives while at the same time developing and stimulating their personal skills in communication.
The teaching of verbal skills involves active participation from everyone and demands a lot of concentration and effort from the teachers and students. Nevertheless, the teachers manage to create a friendly and relaxed atmosphere in the group with lots of humor !
The students are encouraged to speak up at any moment and to be involved in discussions with the aim of putting them on the path towards autonomy as quickly as possible. On top of this we have developed several strategies to correct our students’ mistakes when necessary. Right from the start, so that they don’t ever experience a feeling of failure or guilt, mistakes are presented as a time for pedagogical reflection. This creates relationships based on confidence between the students and between the students and the teacher.
Other Activities:
Cultural and social life. Come and discover everything that’s happening in the world of culture in Provence...
- Cooking classes, wine tastings, visit olive oil producers and the wine-producers in their ‘châteaux viticole’
- Discover local crafts (the making of ‘santons’ (ornamental figures) and caissons)
- Participate in cultural events of Aix and the region: the opera festival, the international piano, jazz and theatre festivals, carnival, ‘santon’ fair...
- Discover the markets of Aix (flowers, flea markets, secondhand goods, antique dealers, fruit and vegetables, books)
- Group activities with other IS students: ‘pétanque’ competitions, barbecues, meet foreign students, go out at night ...
Facility Information:
In a charming turn-of-the-century building facing a boulevard lined with magnificent plane trees on one side and lovely green gardens on the other. The town center is a three minute walk away. The building has 15 classrooms, a Multimedia Resources Center for self-studies next to the sunny terrace, and an Internet room equipped with 8 computers.
