Authentic Friuli - Venezia Giulia is a cooking school located in Cividale del Friuli, one of the most picturesque and historical towns in Friuli, only about one-hour drive from Venice and 20 minutes from Slovenia.
Menus include appetizers (i.e. frico baskets, zucchini flowers), first courses (i.e. pasta, risotto, gnocchi, crespelle), main courses and desserts (i.e. tiramisu), all accompanied by excellent local wines.
Authentic Friuli - Venezia Giulia cooking tours run all year with a minimum of 1 participant. They last from 3 to 5 nights and combine cooking lessons with market tours, winery visits, sightseeing excursions, walks and other interesting activities. Daily cooking lessons are also available.
Cooking classes:
Depending on the number of participants, cooking classes take place either in the welcoming and equipped kitchens of Rosina's and Rita's charming homes near the town center (1-4 participants) or in the spacious kitchen of a nearby beautifully restored country cottage with a nice orchard garden and splendid views over the Matajur mountain, the Natisone valleys and the enchanting countryside (5-10 participants).
All classes, limited to 8-10 participants, are hands-on and last approximately 3 hours, followed by lunch or dinner. Meals feature foods prepared during class and consist of three/four courses accompanied by local wines. Following the true Italian way of eating, all meals are prepared using fresh ingredients and what is available in season.
The day begins around 10 AM and ends after your meal in the afternoon. After meeting the cooks in their charming homes in the town center, you will discuss the recipes of your lesson and then proceed with the hands-on preparation of your lunch, from the starters to the dessert and wine, water and coffee included. Available on request for a minimum of 2 participants. Afternoon classes also available.

Classes are held by Rosina and Rita, two delightful ladies and excellent home cooks that will teach you how to prepare typical Italian and Friulian recipes.
Rosina began cooking at the age of 15, when she started helping in the kitchen of her aunt’s restaurant. Today she is very passionate about sharing the many classic Italian and traditional Friulian recipes passed down to her from her family.
Rita is a self-taught, enthusiastic home cook with formidable cooking abilities as she is able to combine fresh ingredients, simple preparation and a harmonious blending of ingredients to bring out the natural flavors of food.
Other Activities:
Besides cooking classes, all culinary programs also include market visits, winery tours, day trips to cheese makers and prosciutto factories with private tastings, as well as cultural excursions to the many historical and delightful sites in this scenic corner of Italy and the nearby countries of Austria, Slovenia and Croatia!

Guests can stay at the charming B&Bs owned by the cooks, or they can choose from among a wide range of other accommodations conveniently located in the town of Cividale and surrounding areas: lovely country houses, elegant apartments, antique palaces, nice hotels and B&Bs in the city center, charming villas in the town outskirts. They are all very nice and with private bathroom facilities, but be aware that they do not offer features of a hotel, such as daily maid service, room service, room safes, etc. On the other hand, all the owners live on the properties, ready to make you feel at home.
