Let us tell you a little about our school. We have Cambridge IELTS, FCE, CAE and CPE examination courses, General English and Business English, Easter, summer and winter holiday courses for juniors, Medical English and English for Travel and Tourism (special Management modules are available on our Business, Medical and Travel Courses). It is possible to have One-to-One tuition on many of our courses and if you want to study at a British University, we also have a University Foundation/Academic Year Program available (we will then help place you at the university of your choice).
You can study full-time or part-time on our General English, Business English and IELTS courses - 15 hours a week is the minimum for visa students (if you need to apply to the Home Office for a study visa, you should allow plenty of time for the Home Office in England or the British Embassy in your country to consider your application).
* General English: Our full and part-time General English courses will help you to quickly improve your speaking, listening, reading, writing and grammar skills. We have classes for everyone (from absolute beginners to advanced) and with our help you will progress quickly and confidently through the various levels.
On your first day at school you will take a short test to check your level of English - you will then be placed in a class for your level. It usually takes 8 weeks to move through each level, but if you make good progress, you will move to the next level sooner. You will have plenty of opportunities in class to practice your skills because our classes are small and we encourage all our students to work in pairs or groups to complete tasks from their course book. There are also plenty of opportunities to practice your language skills with optional extra conversation classes.
* Business English in Bournemouth: At our school of English, we have full-time and part-time Business English courses to give you confidence in using English in a business environment or to prepare you for the Cambridge Business English Certificate (BEC).
We teach at three levels for the exam (Lower Intermediate, Intermediate and Advanced) and there is the opportunity to take the appropriate Cambridge BEC exam at the end of your course. If you don't want to do the BEC exam, but still want to improve your Business English skills, you can at the Centre School of English. During your course, you may also decide to take a London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) examination - your teacher will help you make up your mind!
* IELTS and FCE Examination Courses in Bournemouth: Cambridge IELTS (International English Language Testing System), FCE (First Certificate in English), CAE (Certificate in Advanced English) and CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English) are recognized around the world as a guide to the student’s level of English in reading, writing, speaking, listening and grammar.
IELTS is useful for students who want to study at an English university or college. It is graded up to level 9.0 (you normally need 6.5 to enter a UK university and 7.0 if you want to work in England as a nurse). If you plan to study at a university in England, you should allow up to 36 weeks of study, depending on your current level of English (see our University Preparation/Foundation Course web page), but you can study an Academic IELTS course for as little as 4 weeks.
FCE is ideal if you want to work or study abroad or to develop a career which requires language skills (e.g. business, medicine, engineering). FCE indicates sufficient proficiency in English to be of practical use in clerical, secretarial and managerial jobs where contact with English speakers is required. FCE is also useful preparation if you are working towards higher level exams, such as CAE (Certificate in Advanced English) and CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English).
