Drawing sessions will emphasize development of formal rendering skills as well as knowledge and principles and elements of design. We will examine approaches to technique and stile through the use of contour and gesture drawing while analyzing forms and texture. Value and tonal ranges will be heavily emphasized in creating both realistic and stylistic works.
Class Structure:
We will explore the use of shading and textural devices in a variety of manners as a means to build the illusion of three-dimensional form. We will likely work from a still life, or if you have photos of images that you are bringing you can work from those. Good drawing skills make for grate paintings and this brief but concise course will induce you to both traditional and experimental approaches to drawing. Your drawing[s] can be used as inspiration or even as a preparatory sketch for a painting as well.
Faculty Information:
As one of the emerging artists in the movement of Fantastic Realism, Kris Kuksi has become a profound voice for a new wave of Surrealist art. From an obscure location of rural North America, he has grown to be amused by the macabre and enigmatic. Producing his work in a world ruled by hackneyed and intrusive contemporary art, he has continued in tradition of old masters, painting techniques and disciplined anatomical study. Yet for him, it is important to have deep meaning behind each work, as sharp contrast in today’s art movements. Despite his may artistic style, his beautiful and sometimes peculiar compositions stand as the work of a keen observer fascinated with nature and psychology. His work has been included in exhibitions throughout Europe, The United States, and Australia and is included in many private and public collections.
