M14416 conducts Canadian Wilderness Fishing Camps for kids ages 10-17 to Tatachikapika Lake and Tatachikapika River. This location is between Sudbury and Timmins, Ontario, 27 miles north of the small village of Gogama. The region is internationally known for its fishing and scenery. This is a wilderness paradise inhabited by wildlife such as moose, black bear, eagles, osprey, falcons, loons and otters. Coming from the Sudbury area, this is the first large lake in the Arctic Watershed! It is possible that you'll have the opportunity to witness the Aurora Borialis (The Northern Lights) glowing in the evening sky, such an amazing sight of ever-changing hues! The Gogama Wilderness is truly a sportsman's paradise!
Whether you're an expert fisherman or a beginner who would like to try catching some of the "big ones" up north, this is the ultimate, once-in-a-lifetime fishing experience for you! You'll be offered unlimited personal instruction by our staff. You can choose to take your catch home to mount, or savor the flavor of fresh fish over an open fire. Enjoy fishing by motorboat as often as you like, and learn survival skills. Canoes will be made available for your enjoyment also. Our relaxed schedule allows you to feel refreshed in this peaceful wilderness atmosphere. The lake has approximately 39 miles of shoreline and is surrounded by majestic pines, spruce and white birch. The beauty is still unspoiled and the rugged scenery of this area is unsurpassed!
Accommodations will be in a fully equipped cottage. Your meals will be served family style, delicious and all-you-can-eat! Tatachikapika Lake offers fantastic fishing for northern pike as large as 20 pounds, walleye, and perch. Recently, our campers set an all time record for the number of fish caught on one camp 490! One camper caught 129 fish! Our largest catch was a 15.5 pound, 40 inch northern pike!! Can you top that this summer? This is the 26th consecutive summer M14416 is conducting Canadian Fishing Camps to Northern Ontario. This is truly an incredible adventure for the camper who wants to have a wilderness experience with fantastic fishing! The trip includes staff, meals, round-trip transportation, camping equipment, cabin and motorboat.
We welcome well-behaved campers ages 10-17. Our Canadian camps are exciting lifetime memory-making opportunities that even most adults don't have a chance to experience! The camp is focused on fishing and we fish many hours each day! Usually our wilderness camps have between 12-20 participants, which allows all of our campers to receive very special and personalized attention.
We strive to encourage and motivate each child to get along well with others, to face new challenges and acquire useful skills, that add to the richness of their lives. It's rewarding , as we work together in the outdoors to achieve the goals of each group. M14416 is grateful that our frequent return rate of campers speaks positively for the proven success of our program.
- To bring greater appreciation of the wilderness lakes and woodlands to each camper.
- To help each camper build self-confidence, through group participation.
- To teach new outdoor skills to each camper, in non-competitive ways.
- To encourage each camper to relax and not be concerned with time and other pressures of everyday life while in the wilderness. The camp is well-organized but not on a rigid schedule. We have a lot of fun!
- To teach each camper how to live cooperatively in a group environment.
- To encourage each camper to contribute to the success of the experience and maintain a positive attitude.
- To contribute to the mental and physical well-being of each camper.
- To help each child realize the majestic nature of God through a deeper understanding of His creation.
During both Fishing Camp Sessions #1 and 2, you will see more of the beautiful Canadian Wilderness as we take a day trip to the Polar Bear Habitat in the northern town of Cochrane. The Polar Bear Conservation and Education Habitat is the only polar bear rehabilitation facility in the world. Animals are offered the most advanced bear husbandry techniques in the international captive animal community.
View the bears as they become rehabilitated in their natural enclosures. You will even be able to "swim with the bears!" The Habitat offers a wading pool where you can swim right next to a polar bear! Of course, there is a huge, thick, very sturdy glass between you and the polar bear. On our way back to the Fishing Camp, we'll make a stop in Timmins, the Gold Mining Center of North America.
Note: An exciting Day Trip activity, unique in Northern Ontario, is included on each Fishing Camp Session.
Round-trip transportation is included at no extra cost from locations listed below, via our 15 passenger van! Your son or daughter will be with the M14416 staff and other campers from the very beginning of the trip, allowing time for the bonding of friendships to begin even before arriving at our base camp location. Campers from other parts of the country and world are met at the following airports by the M14416 staff, and transported with the group to the camp.
