Killarney is Ireland's most beautiful area renowned for its breathtaking beauty and famous the world over for its scenery. With its many lakes and mountain ranges, Killarney is set in a majestic 26,000 acre (10,000 ha) National Park.
The three main lakes stretch south from the mountains providing a magnificent backdrop for both study and holiday making. Killarney has been a center of learning since the 6th Century and has long been an inspiration for poets, painters and scholars. The school operates in a peaceful and stress free environment with an impressive array of facilities.
We offer places to both Juniors and Adults with many courses on offer. We have a very impressive and thorough social & activity program and top class accommodation on offer. Our School of English is overall a friendly school drawing on the Irish experience.
Classes are very small with an average of 4 students per class (Sep - June) and 8 students per class (July - August). We offer six different levels of General English from Beginners to Advanced. All students are tested on arrival to place them in the class that best suits their ability and age. Levels are closely coordinated and monitored to allow students to move up if they are getting ahead of other students in the class.
In the General English program we concentrate on speaking and listening skills as well as essential grammar and vocabulary, thus we do a lot of work on fluency and accuracy in English. Conversation activities are personalized, allow all students the encouragement to express themselves and speak from their experiences and thus share a rich variety of cultural knowledge. Daily tasks guarantee that all class time is reinforced by daily reviews. Classes are available throughout the year.
Students can receive one-to-one tuition for excellent results. These courses are suited to people who wish to make rapid improvement over a short space of time. These sessions may also suit complete beginners who may not wish to be placed in a ‘populated' classroom. All courses offered to groups can be offered on a one-to-one basis. Alternatively we can tailor make a course to meet your specific requirements. Classes are available throughout the year. A certificate of attendance and achievement is presented to each student.
Faculty Information:
All our staff are University graduates with wide experience in language teaching at home and abroad. They all have had experience in the business world along with experience of intensive one-to-one teaching of business executives and other professionals. Modern methods and techniques are used by our teachers to help students learn the language quickly and efficiently. All our teachers are carefully selected and monitored. Our faculties are continuously involved in training seminars and attend weekly meetings to discuss course content.
The school is run by two directors Feargal Courtney and Nicola Bradwell Courtney who have over 25 years of English language teaching and training at home and abroad. Both directors have MA TESOLs from the Institute of Education at the University of London. Both have also written extensively about the field of EFL/ESL/ESP and spoken at various conferences and workshop sessions.
Other Activities:
We offer afternoon and evening activity programs in the summer. Our School of English is safe and secure but yet offers much in the way of sport, entertainment and cultural activities and very competitive prices for shopping! The activity program is done in the afternoon after morning classes. Most social and activity sessions run from 2-5 pm however some activities may last longer. Our social program is designed to give the maximum opportunity to meet and socialize with Irish people and learn all about us!
For example Sporting fixtures are arranged against Irish teams. We keep excellent contact with trainers of many sports such as golf, horse riding. We offer Saturday full day trips to the world famous Ring of Kerry, Dingle, Cork and Limerick.
- English + Irish Dancing: Irish step dancing is fun and great exercise. You may have heard of dances such as these: reels, jigs, slip jigs, hornpipes, traditional set pieces, figure dances. Various forms of Irish step dancing have gained popularity recently, as you may have seen some of the performances on stage or television such as Riverdance and Lord of the Dance.
Students of all ages enjoy learning the art of traditional Irish step dancing at our School of English. Having fun, recreation, and learning new steps in an informal yet structured atmosphere is what students can expect. After a few lessons, the student will know many of the fundamentals such as footwork, timing, and body position.
Facility Information:
We have 8 classrooms, a library and a lounge at the school. All of our classrooms are modern, light and airy. In addition all our classrooms are equipped with tape recorders. There is a common room on the top floor with a coffee machine where you can relax and meet other students, watch satellite TV or listen to music.
