Camp Arowhon is a community small enough that everyone knows you, and celebrates your triumphs: 250 campers and 125 staff. Our campers are girls and boys ages 7 to 16. Home away from home where kids find - inside themselves - skills and strengths they never knew they had.
Although we have 17 horses and four full-time riding instructors, it's not the numbers that make the difference – it's our commitment to working with each individual camper so that both the beginner and the expert get what they need, learn, progress and enjoy riding. Whether it's in the teaching ring or on our miles of trails in the woods, campers learn English riding techniques from beginners to jumping and dressage. Those interested in Western riding can enjoy it on the trail.
Faculty Information:
Learning is fun at Arowhon. Every camper chooses his or her own program every morning. Everyone must participate, but which activities they do is up to them. Our highly qualified instructors take great care to encourage beginners and challenge experts. Campers discover the joy of learning, something they'll never forget.
Other Activities:
Arowhon campers today sing in the same campfire circle where our campers gathered round the campfire almost 70 years ago. The traditions that unite us: the campfire songs, the dining hall highjinks, the early morning paddles in the mist, the same old cheers any time someone does something special. These are what make camp magical. It helps that the majority of our campers come back year after year, and grow up to be camp staff; some are the children and grandchildren of Arowhon campers.
Facility Information:
Camp Arowhon is located deep in the interior of Algonquin Provincial Park, a 3000 square mile wilderness refuge of 2000 lakes, rivers and forest. We are on our own lake (Tepee Lake) in a magical land where loons pierce the silence with their song, moose munch on water lilies, and the canoe is the vehicle of choice.
The centerpiece of Camp Arowhon is the Main Lodge/dining hall, a heritage cedar log building from the 1920s with two stone fireplaces. The Main Lodge and a separate recreation hall/theatre each accommodate 350 people. All our sleeping cabins have bathrooms. Hot showers are located in nearby shower houses.
