As Canada's first winery cooking school, we are focused on the relationship between food and wine. But we're equally excited about the abundance of fresh products grown in the region and showcase them in recipes and menus that reflect the seasons.
Every weekend from January until the end of November, we offer hands-on cooking classes designed to tempt your palate while increasing your culinary knowledge and appreciation of the relationship between food and wine. To check availability, go to the Class Calendar and click on the class date.
- One Day Classes and Two Day Culinary Weekends:
You settle in and sit back in our classroom while your instructor reviews the day's menu. Then it's into the spacious, light filled kitchen, outfitted with top-quality professional home equipment, to create a themed, three-course meal using Niagara's abundant seasonal ingredients and fresh herbs from the School's own garden. When we say hands-on learning, we mean it - each team of two students (capably assisted by our staff) will prepare all of the recipes. You'll do it all except the dishes!
Lunch is served in the School's private dining room, hosted by our Cooking School owner Jane Langdon and her wine maker husband Joe Will. Invariably there are lots of stories, laughter and relaxation over a great meal matched with great wines.
- One-Day Classes:
Starting at 10:00 am and wrapping up around 3:30 pm, one day classes are offered on the first three Saturdays of each month from January through November. The cost is $195 pp. Our popular Couples Classes (bookings need to be made for two people) are offered three times in both January and February and then on the 2nd Saturday of each month from March through November at a special rate of $325 per couple. Note: 7% GST is applicable to these prices.
- Two-Day Culinary Weekends:
Our two-day Culinary Weekends are offered the 4th weekend of each month from January through November. They start with a light breakfast at the School at 8:30 and wrap up around 2:30 pm each day. After lunch on the Saturday, you'll have the chance to go behind-the-scenes and meet one of the regions top growers to make the connection between farm and table. And if the weather doesn't cooperate, there's a tutored wine tasting at Strewn instead. Cost is $350 pp plus 7% GST.
“Culinary Weekends” may also be booked as a package with accommodation in a romantic hotel, inn or bed & breakfast establishment in historic Niagara-on-the-Lake. Costs with two nights accommodation (Deluxe Room) range from $630 to $1,000 per person or $980 to $1,300 per couple depending on the accommodation property selected and whether the booking is during 'high or low' season. Taxes are extra.
The package includes two nights accommodation (Friday or Saturday arrival), daily light breakfast, two days of cooking classes with lunch, and return transportation to the Wine Country Cooking School each day if required. Participating properties include the Harbour House Hotel and the Riverbend Inn both of which have provided a special rate to cooking class students booking the package.
Come as an individual, come with a partner or come with a group of friends and make it a private class. Each menu-based class is complete by itself but 'repeat' students will find new recipes, different themes and new vintages of wines to discover. Weekend classes are for individuals but during the week, we're hosting more and more corporate and convention groups!
- Culinary Vacations:
If you're looking for a more in-depth culinary experience, a five-day Culinary Vacation may be just the answer! There's plenty of time to explore the relationship between food and wine at our Cooking School at Strewn, Canada's only winery school then enjoy the attractions of the Niagara region!
Culinary Vacations are offered June 2-16, July 10-14, August 14-18, and September 11-15. Your Culinary Vacation includes a light breakfast at the School followed by a themed hands-on cooking lesson (themes include building menus around fresh seasonal produce, cooking with wine, using fresh herbs for maximum flavour, planning a wine & food menu). You will enjoy lunch - matched with wine - in the School's private dining room or outside on the patio.
Afternoons are for behind-the-scene visits to growers, the market, and participating in a tutored wine tasting at Strewn. On Wednesday evening, you will enjoy dinner at Terroir La Cachette, the acclaimed Provencal-inspired restaurant at Strewn. After class there's plenty of time to explore the region's natural beauty, take in the theater, the history and the sights. We are happy to assist you with arrangements! Cost is $1,175 pp or $2,100 per couple (without accommodation) plus 7% tax.
“Culinary Vacations” may also be booked as a package with accommodation in a romantic hotel, inn or bed & breakfast establishment in historic Niagara-on-the-Lake. Costs with five night’s accommodation (Deluxe Room) range from $2,275 to $2,675 per person or $3,200 to $3,600 per couple depending on the accommodation property selected. Taxes are extra.
The package includes five nights accommodation (Sunday arrival), welcome get together, daily light breakfast, five days of cooking classes with lunch, dinner Wednesday night, and return transportation to the Wine Country Cooking School each day if required. Participating properties include the Harbour House Hotel and the Riverbend Inn.
- Class Calendar:
We believe in hands-on learning! One-day classes are offered on the first three Saturdays of the month. Our popular 'Couples Classes' (registration must be made for two people who will cook together) are offered three times in both January and February then on the 2nd Saturday of the month from March through November, at a special price. Two day Culinary Weekends take place on the 4th weekend. Five-day Culinary Vacations are offered once a month between June and September.
We supply the aprons (which you keep and take home), the recipes, the instructors and all you will need to cook our delightfully satisfying meals. You'll do it all - except the dishes! Comfortable shoes and clothes are recommended. Each month, the School classes have a different theme. Menus vary with the seasons and every effort is made to accommodate dietary restrictions.
