Behind its walled facade Riad Africa is a haven of beauty and bird song. Two ancient Medina houses blend into a charming small hotel of eight spacious rooms and suites.
We invite you to ‘Experience the Real Marrakesh’ during a stay with us. With our local knowledge, a perfect location, friendly and efficient service, high quality guest rooms and services, and tasty home-cooked local food you’ll leave Morocco enriched and eager to return!
Fully licensed as a Marrakech Maison d’Hôte, Riad Africa originally opened its doors to guests in 2002 with a different name and under French ownership. Nowadays it is owned and operated by English-Dutch partners who share a real passion for Marrakech and the hospitality business.
Riad Africa is located in a very safe and peaceful residential neighbourhood in the Riad Zitoun Lakdim area of the ancient Medina of Marrakech. Offering easy access (just a 2 minute walk from the taxi stand and bank) it takes just 5 minutes to walk the 400 metres to the bustling Djemaa el Fna along the easy to navigate Riad Zitoun Lakdim street.

One of the highlights of a stay at Riad Africa is the food. Our Moroccan chefs are very experienced having prepared typical Moroccan dishes for many years. Whether you take a light lunch or dinner you’ll enjoy a mouth-watering culinary experience. The majority of ingredients are fresh products. All meat, vegetables and fruit are purchased directly from sellers in nearby Mellah market as part of our responsible tourism ethos in support of the local community. Local spices are of course available in abundance in Morocco and add real flavour to our meals. From briwates to pastilla, from salads to soups, from tanjia to tajines, see our Moroccan menu for a taste of what we offer.

Nearby attractions and activities:
As well as numerous cultural attractions in the old Medina which are best explored on a guided walking tour or by horse-drawn caleche, Marrakech has a great range of outdoor activity options including quad biking, buggy adventures, horse riding and camel trek excursions. Helicopter and balloon flights operate throughout much of the year (depending on weather conditions) and offer a superb bird’s eye view of the famous Red City.
Within a 1 hour drive from Marrakech are the spectacular Atlas Mountains. With a backdrop of North Africa’s highest peak, snow-capped Jebel Toubkal, Imlil village is the hub of Atlas treks with several half or full day walking options available. Oukaimeden is another popular walking centre (and also a ski resort in winter). The Ourika Valley offers gentler walks in the foothills of the Atlas whilst Ouirgane is a particularly scenic village set on a reservoir.
The Cascades d’Ouzoud and Cascades d’Immouzer are two of Morocco’s greatest waterfalls – both accessible on day trips. Should you wish to chill by a large pool in an out-of-town tropical setting, take your pick from Nikki Beach or the Beldi Country Club. Families may enjoy a visit to Oasiria, a water park with beach. Even the Atlantic coast is not too far away – the old Portuguese walled city of Essaouira is a popular day trip.
For evening entertainment Chez Ali offers ‘Arabian Night’ shows while numerous venues offer live music and belly dancers. Moroccan cooking courses are growing in popularity as are the number of golf courses.
