This ranch holds exclusive outfitting rights to over 740,000 acres of the Clearwater and Nez Perce National Forests under special use permit from the US Forest Service. Combined with their 4,200 acres, the ranch offers its guests one of the largest land concessions in the state of Idaho for hunting elk, whitetail, mule deer, black bear, turkey, cougar, bobcat, moose and mixed bag bird hunting.
Black bear hunting at the ranch has been booming for years now, with a harvest rate over 95% per year. Colors of the American black bear range from blond, cinnamon, and reddish chocolate to traditional black. Idaho Fish and Game deparment estimates the populations of black bears at 2 1/2 bears per square mile in their hunting territory. In most areas, hunters are allowed to harvest two bears and with five full days to hunt, many experience multiple opportunities. Bear hunting is conducted from both the deluxe backcountry camps and from the main lodge.
Here in the Salmon River area bears are plentiful. They roam the hills freely in the spring searching for fresh green sprigs. At that time they try to lure the animals with their three generation family secret bear bait recipe. Experience and location of biat ensure a successful bear hunt more times than not. Bear in Idaho are black bear, but they come in any color from deep black to blonde and all colors in between. With this type of hunting, you are likely to see a bear very close. Although they only do guided bear hunts in the spring, you may see a bear in the fall and a bear tag can be included in a combination deer or elk tag hunt if you desire.
You'll be staying in a modern, comfortable cozy bunkhouse. Breakfast and dinner (included) will be eaten at the lodge. Lunches will be packed and eaten in the field. Each morning your guide will pick you up and you will be off on the hunt. Depending on weather and road conditions you will use 4x4 vehciles, snow mobiles, or sometimes on foot to designated hunting areas. Both bear and cougar hunting are physically and mentally demanding sports. After a full day of hunting, you'll want to relax in comfort with a hearty meal, a hot shower, great companionship and a cozy bed.
