This outfitters territory, in the Maroon Bells/Snowmass and Raggeds Wilderness areas near Marble, Colorado, is home to one of the largest elk herds in Colorado. Opportunities for 5x5 and 6x6 bulls are excellent. Mule deer numbers are good, and hunters have the chance of scoring on truly trophy class bucks over 30". Bighorn sheep can be found in the northern range, and black bears are numerous. All the hunts are fair chase only, horseback and foot travel only, with no ATV access. They also have lodging available for hunters prior to and after the hunt at the gorgeous Marble Outpost Lodge.


This outfitter, in northwestern Colorado, has partnered with the Colorado Division of Wildlife in a program called “Ranching for Wildlife.” This program stresses the importance of good habitat and game management. The program is dedicated to better game management for the future. This means limited numbers of hunters here each year, but also means guaranteed tags and high success rates.

The terrain varies from the desert sage and grass country to the higher elevations of aspen groves and dense, oak brush, covered slopes. Elevations range from 6,000 to 9,000 feet.

The camps consist of modern lodges that have housekeeping services including bed and bathroom linens, and all the comforts of home. Meals are provided and are of excellent home style variety.

Pack into a base camp located in prime elk and deer area of the LaGuarita Wilderness and the Gunnison National Forest. Experienced guides, along with proven areas, give you a tremendous advantage on the trail to bagging that big buck or bull elk. This experienced outfitter hunts out of spacious heated tents-separate ones for eating and bunking. They serve plenty of excellent food.

Excellent mountain horses are used to hunt as hard or as little as you like. The success rate is about 50%, with 75% getting a shot at an elk. The rifle hunts are post rut. You would need a hotel the night before the hunt and Outdoor Connection can set your reservation up with one of several area hotels. It is about an hour horseback ride to the camp. You are at 10,000 feet altitude. This is Forest Service land. Over half of the bulls taken are 5x5's or 6x6's. Bighorn sheep tag applications must be postmarked by April 4th.
