A new world of image making will open up through creative experiments, as emphasis of this course is not only on the physical methods of the mediums or on the ability to produce multiples or limited edition prints. Emphasis is placed on the experimental and visual possibilities that printmaking offers, allowing participants to develop their intellectual, creative and critical abilities through a variety of processes used in combination or on their own.
This course explores the following:
- Monotypes and monoprints
- Etching and drypoint
- Linocut, embossing and reduction prints
- addition of Mika and chine collé
- oil based and water based inks
Whether you are a beginner or already have experience in the arts, you will be constantly challenged to develop your artistic skills while enjoying a truly creative and memorable experience enriched by a schedule of events and activities including field trips to nearby museums and attractions. With class sizes that average 4-6 students, everyone receives the full attention of the teacher who encourages experimental learning throughout the course.
Italian and international students interact in the same classes, making it an ideal venue to share ideas and enhance your overall studio experience. Language of instruction: English and Italian.
The courses are run by Colleen Corradi Brannigan, a practising printmaker and artist.
This course includes two excursions: one is local, to see the Abbey of San Clemente a Casauria, a real treasure of medieval art, left untouched through the ages. The other excursion will be a half day tour to the castle of Rocca Calascio which is perched on the mountain and is among the 15 most beautiful castles in the world, according to National Geographic.
Set at the foot of the Abruzzi mountains, in Italy, Dedalo Center for Contemporary Art is in Castiglione a Casauria, in the province of Pescara. It is ideally situated in the center of Abruzzo only about one hour from Rome and about 30 minutes from Pescara.
The studio is equipped with an 80x140 etching press, a 35x50 hotplate, rollers, printmaking tools, acid baths, laser printer, large working tables, outdoor tables.
