Beginners Course. The beginners' ceramic course in Florence will help the student to become acquainted with ceramics and all the potential forms it might take and which techniques should be applied to achieve each one. The course contemplates all the primary methods of molding and adorning clay, covering the essential theoretic information about the nature of clay and glazes. Specific assignments are given whenever a new technique has been presented. Low-temperature terracotta materials are used in the studio, since these are the ones that have been used in the Mediterranean area for centuries. Raku, sawdust saggar, and pit firings are also used. Whenever possible, field trips are arranged to present students to local traditions and to contemporary artists' work.
Intermediate Course. The intermediate ceramic course in Florence is designed to provide students who already have covered all the basic notions of building and glazing of ceramics among some other basic techniques. The students will deepen their study of contemporary ceramics.
Advanced Course. The advanced ceramics course is designed for those students who are capable of working almost completely independently. It requires a high level of technical skill and competence. At the advanced ceramics course students will push their ideas to the limits, refine their skills, master the ceramic materials, techniques and processes in order to create an original and personal expressionism in clay.
The AEF provides a pleasant atmosphere and highly qualified teachers so that you can make the most out of your time in Florence.
Aside from regular courses our school offers a rich program of optional language and cultural activities (concerts, seminars, films, visits to museums and farms) as well as extra-curricular and recreational activities (parties, dinners, food and wine tasting, sports, etc.) which are offered every week to ensure the enjoyment and cultural fulfillment of the students.
Our students can choose from among the following types of accommodations:
- Private apartment. This is the best option for those who want to be completely autonomous and free to host friends and family. All apartments are furnished and equipped with kitchen utensils.
- Student apartment. This option allows students to share an apartment with other students (foreign and Italian). Apartments are well equipped and furnished.
- Family-stay. Living with an Italian family is a good way to practice the language and experience the Italian way of life. All families are used to hosting foreign students and willing to share with you their daily routines and traditions.
- Other solutions. It is also possible to reserve accommodations in pensions, hotels, residence or religious institutions.
