Our art workshops, led by experienced visiting artists, take advantage of the spectacular local environment and world class galleries. We offer daily yoga, accommodation in our beautiful modern villa and great Mediterranean food.

We start each day with an hour of Qigong, followed by breakfast and a full day workshop. We will work with the dancer Hsiao-Hwa Li to prepare a series of interlinked drawings and paintings of movement and dance.

Hsiao-Hwa believes that modeling is an art of sharing and communication. The model is not a passive object, but a living active participant in the process of creating. Sensing the space, the light, the atmosphere and the pace of the artist's drawing rhythm are crucial for her to maintain the passion and spirit while working with Ray.

In this Qigong workshop, you will be introduced a sequence of soft movement and breathing exercises which can help to release body tension. Each participant will be guided to visualize each movement and breathing pattern and explained how to connect these exercise with the Chinese Medicine concept of Channel energy flow.

Faculty Information:
Ray Atkins will be your teacher during this course. He is a painter with a passion for working directly from the things he sees. This contact with the outside world is essential to his creative process. He has painted all his life and frequently exhibited including at the Whitechapel, Hayward and Serpertine galleries in London and more recently in France and Germany. He was trained at the Slade School in London and has taught at Reading University, Falmouth College of Arts, in adult education and at summer schools.

Hsiao-Hwa began her professional dance training in Taipei, Taiwan with Dr Lui Feng-Shueh and the Neo-Classic dance company. She got her BA in music in Taiwan and later she gained her MA in Dance studies at Laban Centre London UK. She also practiced Tai-chi Ch'uen and Qigong with master Rita Harris in London. Now she works with the French Tai Chi Ch'uan teacher Marcel Vigrean and has her own Qigong class in Estadens.

Other Activities:
During the course of the week these workshops will incorporate visits to some local galleries e.g. Matisse, Chagall, Picasso, Leger, Fondation Maeght, Nice Museum of Modern Art. We will also aim to visit a local village market, Antibes, the famous Biot Verrerie - glass blowing workshops - and perhaps the beach so that you don't leave us without experiencing at least some of the richness of the local area.
