Umbria, like Tuscany, offers exceptional inspiration for our plein air painting sessions. This large area on the right bank of the river Tevere, it is scattered in rural villages and castles of rare beauty as Sant'Apollinare and Spina. The waters of Lake Trasimeno and pearls as historical towns of Orvieto and Todi - are at a short driving distance.

The Painting Program

The main purpose of the workshop is to take the student to the next skill level and increase self-confidence. The morning session includes demonstrations and exercises on the topic of the day, followed by free and supervised painting outdoor in the afternoon. A final critique meeting is also scheduled.

Media and Topics

Most popular media are welcome (oil, watercolor, acrylics and dry media). We'll study composition and value structure, color theory and mixing, brushwork and expressive concepts. For each media, will experience the process of direct 'alla prima' and were needed and were needed, the use of tools and mediums.

The method is adapted individually. Beginners will take advantage of an intensive week of practice and los of notes to bring home. Experts can also experiment new expressive strategies.

Faculty Information:
Francesco Fontana is a professional artist with long years experience in oil, watercolor and all main academic and contemporary art techniques. He's the chairman of the Artists Association Fare Pittura. He teaches regular classes in Milan, Italy all year round. He fluently speaks English, French and Italian and has widely worked as a portrait and landscape artist, exhibiting in France and Italy.

Other Activities:
Visit to the restored San Francis cathedral in Assisi and to Parugia.

Facility Information:
We will be based in a typical casale in the village of Papiano, 20 kms from Perugia. The venue has got 1600's stone walls and ceilings with chestnut beams and terracotta tiles vintage, a breakfast room with original vaulted brick. An art studio is equipped with tables and easels, surrended by 10,000 square meters of land.
