Understand different approaches in creating a work of art, in terms of subject matter, conception, composition and design as well as the choice and use of medium and techniques of execution. Through demonstration and discussion, explore various techniques of the masters - Leonardos' development and mastery of Sfumato - depicting atmospheric perspective, and Chiaroscuro – the blending of light and shadow, to working on various toned grounds, painting en grisaille, as well as various practices of underpainting and glazing as used by the Pre-Raphaelites to achieve the incredible jewel like sparkle and glow in their paintings.
