The skipper owners combine their experience of barging in Belgium since 1999 with their knowledge of Belgium to give you an inside view on places off the beaten track. Combination of barging with bicycling or walking is possible. Sampling the Belgian cuisine, chocolate, beer and the friendly people. Come as guests and leave as friends!
1. How long has the business been operating and how did it start?
In August 1999, M14685 completed her first barge tour on the Belgian waterways. After a long search for the ideal barge we bought this barge built 1924 in The Netherlands. It took more than a year to convert it into a modern hotel barge without loosing the nostalgic lines of this old-timer.
2. What is your company's mission?
Barging is by far the most comfortable way to travel. You also get a completely different, and in our eyes very beautiful, view on a country. Belgium is a rather unknown and surprisingly different country with a lot of variation. We love to show our guests all Belgium can offer. We can even surprise our Belgian guests!
3. What does your company specialize in?
We are specialized in tailor made tours for small groups up to 8 persons. Our speciality is to meet even the smallest desire of our guests! We also offer cabin charters and make sure that everybody soon feels completely at home aboard.
4. Who is the founder or owner of the company and briefly describe his/her past activities?
The owners and founders are Olga and Maurits Karreman. And don't forget the ship's mascot Bearded collie Noty! We started with sailing on the boats of our parents. This was followed by a carrier, as navigation officers, on merchant marine ships. Later we preferred to work together on our own ship and pamper passengers instead of transporting cargo all over the world. We both love the social aspect of our company.
5. What is your most popular travel package and why?
Week tours are the most popular. For first time visitors the culture tour is favourite, because it combines the visit of Belgian cultural highlights Ghent, Bruges and Oudenaarde with the most beautiful river of Belgium: the river Old Leie. For a second visit the locks tour is surprisingly different. It combines culture off the beaten track, Tournai and the castle of Beloeil, with technical wonders. The passage of the highest ship's elevator in Europe is surely a highlight on this tour.
6. What is the best compliment you received from a client?
One of our guests thanked us for sharing our country and our home with them. That was a great compliment. Even better is the compliment of a family who prefers to barge with us, this year already for the 11th time!
