The directors, Michael and Jenny Job, launched M14799 at the Brisbane Boat Show in 1997. Prior to this both worked in the yachting industry in the UK. Michael trained in the UK to become a RYA Yachtmaster Instructor and went on to manage a large sailing school, in the south of England. Jenny ran the administration at a company, which marketed Finnish yachts in the UK.
M14799 conducts practical and theory courses in accordance with the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) requirements, marine radio courses, skippered yacht charter, skippered offshore trips, corporate sailing events and training packages. Our clients embark and disembark our yachts at the East Coast Marina. Theory courses are conducted in the Marine College Classroom at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron with whom we have a close affiliation.
In addition to Michael’s role as an instructor we currently employ 2 full time instructors and 5 instructors on a casual basis. These instructors have been trained to the high standard of the school. The RYA is a UK based sail training scheme that has expanded into the world market over the last few years and is recognised world wide.
Our principal Michael Job attended the first RYA Australian instructor training at the Australian Maritime College in Tasmania in July 2003 where he updated his RYA Instructor qualifications. M14799 became one of the first RYA accredited schools in Australia. Michael was appointed to the position of a RYA Examiner of Instructors and has since been heavily involved in the education and qualifying of many Australian RYA Yachtmaster instructors. A number of the Yachtmaster training courses have been conducted on Moreton Bay by our school from our base at Manly.
RYA qualifications are recognised around the world and the RYA Yachtmaster is a commercial ticket to work on UK flagged vessels and also the pre requisite for skippers wishing to work as skippers in the superyacht industry. The instructor qualification is recognised by Queensland Transport in the application for a commercial qualification.
The company owns a Sydney 41, Oceans which is moored at the RQYS marina and manages another 4 yachts which are surveyed for skippered charter or sail training.
