Anna Levesque, the 32-year-old Canadian was a bronze medallist at the 2001 Freestyle Kayaking World Championships, and has been a member of the 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 Canadian National Freestyle teams. As a professional whitewater kayaker and international guide she’s worked and paddled in Canada, the U.S., Costa Rica, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, France, Australia, Austria and Africa. Levesque admits to "basically not living in the same place for more than six months at a time." Travel truly ignites her spirit. "I get to see places that few people get to see. I love travel, the people, and being out in nature.” In what little free time she has, Levesque, who is fluent in English, Spanish and French, donates her time as a volunteer for Soft Power Health, a non-profit organization that works to fight malaria in Uganda. She is also a freelance writer for whitewater publications and websites, and a guest speaker for college outdoor programs. But her genuine passion is the fiery rhythms of salsa dancing. "I love to salsa dance!" she says. "I do all outdoor activities for fun, but salsa dancing is just so much fun. It’s great music, and you create a special flow with your partner.” Amidst all of her different interests and activities, Anna has found an inner grace, balance and drive in the rips and curls that only a river can provide.
