1. How long has the business been operating and how did it start?

In 2015, M16432 will be celebrating our 16th year of planning exciting and beautiful trips to Latin America, and our fifth year traveling to Africa, India and South East Asia. M16432 began when a Peruvian man (José Irauzqui) and an American woman met in New York and decided to travel together to Machu Picchu. Due to the unrest of the country at that time, José had not been to Machu Picchu despite being native to the country. Their first visit to the mountaintop citadel was a life changing experience. When they returned to New York they were married, and shortly after launched their travel website.

2. What is your company's mission?

It is M16432' mission to provide life changing, customized tours to our various destinations. It is our passion to provide our clients with the chance to love travel as much as we do. Our travel consultants have been to, and fallen in love with, the places where our clients will travel. We have an entire team of operations to make sure that everything goes according to plan; we work relentlessly to leave no margin for error.

3. What does your company specialize in?

M16432 specializes in customized itineraries to Latin America. We have recently introduced itineraries to India, Africa and South East Asia and are excited to evolve our products further in these fascinating regions. Our tours do not have set dates of departure so our clients have flexibility in their travel dates and destinations.

4. Who is the founder or owner of the company and briefly describe his/her past activities?

José Irauzqui is the President and founder of M16432. Born in Peru, José traveled from a very young age with his parents around Latin America. Later he attended boarding school in Switzerland and traveled extensively around Europe and Asia. In 1990 José earned his law degree in the UK and went back to Peru until 1998 when he met Monica, his future wife and co-founder of Yampu, during a trip to New York.

5. What is your most popular travel package and why?

Our most popular tours include our trips to Peru, our first destination offered on the website 16 years ago. Because is was the first offering on the website, we have become experts in this region and have expanded and specialized our products here including guides, hotels and tours.

6. What is the best compliment you received from a client?

We frequently receive positive testimonials from clients who travel with us to our various destinations. Clients are often pleased with our attention to detail, deeply customized itineraries and support even while they are traveling. Our trip to Peru couldn’t have gone smoother! We loved every minute of it! Before our trip, we chatted with Chris online and gave him our budget along with all the sites we wanted to see. Within a day we had a packed itinerary that was totally reasonable.

All of our tour guides were exceptional and ... view more spoke great English. The local Kontiki people were fabulous! It was so nice not to have to worry about anything like transfers to our hotels, airport and tour destinations. Everyone was so nice. Carlos in Cusco was so attentive to us and even checked in on us. My favorite part of the whole trip was staying at the Wasai Lodge on the Tambopata River. It was an absolutely amazing experience to be in such a beautiful, quiet place. Our guide, Jorge, was so knowledgeable and laid back.

We weren’t sure what to expect from our trip never having done anything like this before. It is safe to say it exceeded our expectations and we’re so glad we went with Kontiki!

Thanks for everything!!

The trip was great. Your professionalism and personal attention to detail showed all along the trip. All the things on the itinerary happened and no connection was missed. Your offices in Lima and in Cusco were very professional, friendly, courteous and helpful. I had some little complications and when I called ... view more Mr. Cubas or Mr. Terrazoas they answered promptly and were very helpful.

I enjoyed the trip very much and I am happy that I chose Kontiki for my travel arrangements to PERU. No other company could have made better arrangements at the price that I paid for the trip. I will be happy to recommend your company, without hesitation, for travel to PERU.

I will call you on the phone to thank you personally. I am sure that I will use your company for my future travel plans to South America. Please feel free to use my name as a reference. If a potential traveler needs to talk to me I will be happy to take their call or E-mail.

Thank you for a wonderful trip to Brazil! I got back early Saturday morning after a ten day stay in Rio and Bahia as you know, and wanted to tell you what a great experience it was. The accommodations were great in both Rio and Salvador, and the itinerary was followed flawlessly. I had the opportunity to enjoy the ... view more lovely beaches in Brazil, as well as take tours around the cities with most capable guides.
Thanks again to you and Kontiki for making my visit possible.
Best regards,

Our trip was amazing!

The Seaman 2 was extremely comfortable, we had a fantastic guide and we were joined halfway by the marketing girl from with a cameraman and Miss Ecuador! They were all charming and English speaking. The ground arrangements in Ecuador went very smoothly and although we did think that ... view more the Dann Carlton was a bit ordinary it was certainly well placed for the airport. Lovely hotel in Cuenca.

The arrangements for the jungle stay worked like clockwork and the lodge was fine. The most outstanding thing about this whole trip was everyone’s kindness. We were probably a bit old for the land trips on the Galapagos but everywhere, my husband particularly, had unfailing help getting about and where the lava was just too difficult we had a boatman who showed us along the coast and often saw more than the others.
A terrific trip all round, many thanks.

We did have a brilliant trip! Practically everything went according to plan and we were very happy with the itinerary, the hotels, the city tours and the other trips you booked for us in advance. The guides were all very good and some of them exceptionally good. We particularly enjoyed having someone to collect us ... view more from the airport and take us to our hotel and back again in unfamiliar cities. This is something we had never done before but it is definitely a very good idea and takes away most of the stress of travelling so much in such a short time.

John wants to visit Machu Pichu next and we will definitely get in touch with you when the time comes. With many thanks and good wishes,

We are back from Brazil and had a really good time.

I like Rio – I didn’t know what to expect but it is a very easy city to be in. Our hotel was very good even though it is a 3 star. The position of it is great and the service efficient and friendly. We stayed in the Martinique Hotel which is almost ... view more on the front of Copacabana beach. The night market was a stone’s throw away and was good to visit.

The Iguazu Falls are amazing and a must for anyone who goes to Brazil. We had a really good guide too who was very knowledgeable and of course got us into the National park quickly avoiding the queues. I hadn’t really appreciated that we would be spending a day in Argentina, so that was exciting. There is one thing that I really did need to know beforehand and wasn’t told: The soaking under the falls is extreme. I didn’t know that I would be getting that close to the falls and that the boat would be actually going under the falling water. I was actually terrified. It was a fantastic experience though!!

The resort at Recife is a lovely place. I can’t fault the food or the staff there and the setting and the beach is beautiful. However, I do think that people should be aware that it is about 45 minutes car drive out of Recife, and so there is not anything really around the resort. The next small town (Porto do Galinas) is about 20mins away but is not the sort of place you would want to go to of an evening as it is very set up with local bars but nothing that is just a restaurant.

Overall though a very good relaxing holiday. Best Regards,

Thank you for the welcome home. I intended to write to compliment you on the fantastic arrangements and support personnel that you and Kontiki arranged. Kuzie and Jose met us on arrival and were enthusiastic ambassadors of their city. Our accommodations at the Country Club were incredible. I am so glad we wound up ... view more in the residential area of San Isidro, instead of Miraflores. Originally I had reservations about the “second choice” hotel. My mistake. The decor, welcome champagne, warm staff and beautiful, large rooms were the best! Our city guide (Veronica) was absolutely wonderful. She gave us suggestions for dinner and saw to it that we had a fine table. The air transport to Cuzco was seamless. Our guide (Fernando) taught us a lot and again timed our tour extremely well. The Monasterio was a beautiful hotel. The Orient Express train was lovely. Carlos, our guide, learned our names and knew so much history. The Sanctuary was amazing. I loved the afternoon tea and again the staff knew us by name from the first introduction. Every staff member was helpful and cheerful. Our private guide, Lucretia, was also great. It was a pleasure to tip them, but in no way were we made to feel that a tip was necessary or expected during any part of our stay. The transfers were smooth and timed well. All in all, we had a fantastic time. Thank you so much for your wonderful itinerary and carefully planned activities. The Peruvian contacts you have are first rate, speak English well and provide clean cars. I know I haven’t mentioned everyone by name, but each and everyone we came in contact with deserves a great deal of credit and demonstrated the highest degree of professionalism.
Thank you, Jake, and Kontiki, for a trip we will always regard as top notch. You made it so easy for us to enjoy!

Our trip to Peru and Ecuador was just completed. We so appreciated all the things your staff did to make it an exceptional experience. We want more – and the first place we will call will be Kontiki.

The team in Lima was outstanding. Kuzi met us at the airport at some awful hour and made sure we got to ... view more our hotel and were briefed on next steps. She even was there when we did not show the night before due to weather delays. The staff jumped in to rearrange things when our plans changed (due to the weather delays in DC and Atlanta) and the Cusco staff was outstanding. We loved the hotel accommodations we had and the friendship we found everywhere.

Your staff throughout was eager, helpful, fun and very knowledgeable. We have already mentioned the Kontiki name to many on the Galapagos leg so we hope that will turn into new business for you. We want to explore SA some more. Whether it is next year or the next, we will be back (the upper Amazon in Brazil or Ecuador, Argentina and Chile to ski and explore and Patagonia are all high on our list. Plus we did not get to Lake Titicaca due to the weather situation so of course we have to get there too!).

So you are not done with us yet! Thanks for all you did to make this one of our favorite family adventures ever!!

This trip was beyond amazing!!!! The Amazon changed my life. Every single guide there seemed like my best friend! The falls were also incredible and our guide (Tony) went way way way beyond for us. I am so sad that it is over. I have such great memories of this vacation!!!! Thanks you so much for organizing a trip ... view more that fit every inch of our personalities. I feel like you knew us!

The trip (to Brazil) was soooo amazing! All of the guides were wonderful. The hotels were great, and Anavilhanas Lodge was a gem. :-) Thank you so much for everything!
