1. How long has the business been operating and how did it start?
When showing my father and my brother around the invasion beaches in Normandy I got the idea to start with battlefieldtours. Starting informally in 2007, M20429 became a registered company in 2008.
2. What is your company's mission?
Our mission is to share our passion and knowledge of military history with history buffs as wel as novices. We believe that touring the places were it all happened is essential for understanding what happened.
3. What does your company specialize in?
We specialize in small-group battlefieldtours with minibuses. We focus on the big Western-European battles and campaigns, from Roman times to World War Two. We love to make a schedule to meet the special interests and family history of our clients.
4. Who is the founder or owner of the company and briefly describe his/her past activities?
M20429 was founded by Jip Meijer. After completing university, specializing in International Relations, I worked for the Dutch Ministry of Defense for 18 years as a civil servant. My military service was spent as an NCO in a field artillery batallion.
5. What is your most popular travel package and why?
My most popular travel package is to Ypres, Belgium. Interest for the First World War is rising and the rebuilt town of Ypres is an icon of this war. The Last Post ceremony conducted every day is very moving. Ypres can be visited all year round and is an excellent place to enjoy Flemish hospitality.
6. What is the best compliment you received from a client?
That she liked the way I tell the story and widen the perspective by connecting it to other historic events and developments.
