Supplier: M20972

InfoHub supplier since Jun 2011!
Base of operations: Italy
Our Company is an art gallery and painting school in Bellagio, Italy, that promotes the impressionist method of painting, which can be traced back directly to the French Impressionists such as artist-teacher Robert Brackman, Robert Henri, and John Singer Sargent.

We teach, exhibit, and share with others the activity of art. Our work is based upon a simple idea – articulated nicely by Robert Henri – which is this: art is the province of every human being. This thought is central to all our projects. Each of us has the capacity to create, to feel profoundly, and to express who we are.

We focus on painting and we do this through our art school, videos, exhibitions, and writing.

Questions and Answers
M20972 offers oil painting workshops on Lake Como, Italy, in September and in St. Petersburg, Florida, in February.

1. How long has the business been operating and how did it start?

M20972 has been offering painting workshops on Lake Como since 2004 when plein air painter Jerry M20972 and his wife Conchitina Miguel moved from San Francisco, CA.

2. What is your company's mission?

M20972 is a husband-wife team whose goal is to encourage the enjoyment of art and to promote the spontaneity and visual pleasure of seeing the world around us in a sensual and enchanting way. Our hope is that we can bring both romance and the radical challenge of Impressionism circa 1880 Paris into our contemporary setting.

3. What does your company specialize in?

We are the only school that focuses on the authentic method handed down directly from the French Impressionists to various Americans such as Sargent, Henri, and Brackman. We actually teach a full comprehensive method. You will learn not only the craft side of painting but also the history and philosophy behind this method of painting.

4. Who is the founder or owner of the company and briefly describe his/her past activities?

Jerry M20972 received a PhD in Political Science from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and has taught at numerous US colleges and universities. He left academia in 1989 and settled in San Francisco to pursue a career in painting. In San Francisco he was an exhibitor and Executive Director of two outdoor art exhibition groups. He has written extensively on both art as well as the political-economy of the United States. Conchitina Miguel received an MBA from the University of San Francisco. She has six years work experience in the banking industry and 15 years in the travel and tourism industry. A painter herself, Conchitina is also an avid cook who is passionate about mediterranean-vegetarian cooking.

5. What is your most popular travel package and why?

Our painting workshops in Bellagio, Italy, are popular because: 1) students learn an authentic & complete method of painting; 2) classes are small (8 people max) and so you get personalized instruction; 3) Lake Como, and Bellagio in particular, offers painters a truly inspiring location; 4) we attract a diverse group - students have come from 35 countries in 5 continents; and 5) we provide all art materials making it easy for students to travel and start without making a commitment.

6. What is the best compliment you received from a client?

Everything about the experience exceeded our expectations: the stunning location, the warmth of your welcoming hospitality, the delicious food and of course, the inspired painting instruction. Jerry's command of his craft, his hands-on demonstrations and assistance, and the provision of all materials and a beautiful environment all lived up to the billing on your website. But what made the experience even more meaningful was Jerry's intellectually engaging analysis of the social and historical context behind the approach that he teaches, his generosity in providing individual feedback and, most significantly, the lasting impact his teaching has had on the way I see the world around me.

Once again we really loved our week at M20972. As you know, I've now taken your painting course three times and I look forward to coming back for more. There are several things that make this painting experience work so well for me. First, of course, is the location. Lake Como is beautiful. Lenno must be among the most charming towns on the lake. And your studio with its wonderful terrace practically cantelevered over the lake must be among the finest spots in Lenno. Second is your painting style. ... view more Marianne and I were initially drawn to your course because of the images of your paintings on your website. In person the paintings are even better. The broken color and vigorous brushstrokes applied to beautifully rendered drawings produce magnificent impressionist paintings. It's a style we love. Third is the method of instruction. The mini-lectures and demonstrations combined with individual coaching work well for me. I really feel I have improved as a painter after every single day of your instruction. Fourth is the availability of painting critiques throughout the year. Jerry's willingness to comment on images of paintings made after leaving the course keeps the instruction going all year. And the critiques are not pro-forma, they consistently reflect genuinely thoughtful feedback. All together a terrific experience.

My two weeks in Lenno with you guys was without a doubt one of the best times in my life... Being there was so incredible that my words really do fail to express my feelings. Conchitina, you are such an incredible person. Your warm and happy personality gives everyone around you a wonderful feeling. Of course, the fact that you are such a fantastic cook is amazing... You are a generous and thoughtful person and you took great care of not just me, but all your guests. Of course, I really got the royal ... view more treatment!... Jerry, I can't thank you enough for the workshop. I am painting a little, but find I miss having you here to guide me... I am also quite happy with the work I was able to do during my two weeks. I think that was really the perfect amount of time to be there. I feel so lucky to have found you and to have worked under your guidance. I hope to be back again.

I would like to thank you both very much for the wonderful time I spent in Lenno. The lessons were very informative and inspiring for a "non practicing artist" like me. Jerry, you are a wonderful teacher, able to impart learning to your students with such exuberance and clarity. Conchitina, you are the heart of the studio, always around to help. You went far beyond our expectations with the warmth of your presence and hospitality. The meals you prepared for us were so welcome and so delicious. Thank ... view more you again for the great experience you both made possible for us.

Thank you very much for your hospitality and the workshop. This was definitely the best workshop I have ever had. Jerry is an excellent artist and a wonderful teacher. I have been inspired a lot by him. Everything was perfect except that a one-week workshop is not long enough for me to learn so many concepts and methods. Indeed, I am thinking to come back and register another workshop in the near future. Hope to see you soon.
