They have often dominated the record books with caribou coming from their camps and the trout fishing is unbelievable with some lakes and rivers producing brookies up to 7 lbs and lakers up to 40 lbs. With more spare camps than any of their competitors and their own floatplanes, the Hume's can normally place each group of six hunters or fishermen in a productive camp of their own.
Associated with the NRA, NAHC, P&Y Club, Safari Club, Quebec Outfitters Association(FPQ), etc. Stories have been written in many outdoor magazines including Mossey Oak, NAH, Pettersons Hunting...just to name a few. 1. How long has the business been operating and how did it start?
We have been incorporated under M09712 since 1986. After doing so for a number of years a position opened up which was offered to him to Manage the outfitting business. My father accepted the position and he managed to take the outfitting business which started off with only 6-70 clients/year and topped off with over 300 within two years of managing it. It wasn’t long before other outfitters were offering him positions within their companies to try and have my father leave Laurentian Ungava and work for them. After 10 years of managing the business for my father, we became partners and then 6 years ago purchased the remaining shares of the business from my father allowing him to retire. I actually represent the 2nd generation, and today I am helped by my wife, Amanda who plays a huge roll in helping to coordinate our hunts. Hopefully our two boys will eventually take over from us when they are old enough to do so.
2. What is your company's mission?
Our mission is to provide our clients with a true wilderness experience that they will remember for ever. We realize that our hunts are quite expensive and being a family run business I personally fly our private float plane in search of the very best areas to send our hunters in order to ensure their success. We boast the highest repeat business in our industry, we have more spare camps to move hunters into (according to the caribou migrations) than any of our competitors and we have the best available guides and cooks hand picked for not only their ability to guide or cook but also for their character which we know means so much to our clients. Our mission is to maintain the stellar reputation we have already achieved and to continue to monitor the migrations in order to be the best at what we do!
3. What does your company specialize in?
We specialize in catering to our clients who choose to hunt with us for a Quebec/Labrador Caribou.
4. Who is the founder or owner of the company and briefly describe his/her past activities?
however our family (Humes) has been involved in guiding and outfitting caribou hunters ever since 1972. My father, Jack Hume started off as a guide and would take a leave of absence from work as a Machinist at C.I.L to go up to northern Quebec and work for Laurentian Ungava Outfitters.
5. What is your most popular travel package and why?
ur most popular travel package would be our 1x2 guided caribou hunts. I believe that most people would rather pay a little extra to have the full time services of a guide on a hunt like ours and it seems that our 1x2 hunts are always booked first.
6. What is the best compliment you received from a client?
One of our hunters who had been on hunts across the world including Africa stated that his hunt with us was by far the best wilderness experience he had ever had and that he would highly recommend our services to anyone wanting to have a hunt of a life time.
