Visiting A Powwow
Submitted by M15288
Try to be respectful of native traditions. This doesn't mean you have to shrink away as if you somehow shouldn't be there, but do keep looking around you and notice what people around the arbor are doing. Take cues from them. Stand when people stand and don't sit until they do. Listen out for help from the MC/announcer - he knows he is speaking to all-comers, new and old and will give instructions in the nicest possible way. Never walk across the Arbor - once the powwow starts it is consecrated ... view more ground. And NEVER join in the dancing unless expressly invited to do so. Powwow is a seriously fun business, and it's protocols and etiquette keep it that way.
